myself and a friend are planning a 7week trip next year (starting june).
will be travelling mainly by train, and a few flights where train is not possible.
would love any tips and advice you may have - this is a rough idea of what we have so far.
i know this is a bit rushed but we can't seem to knock any cities out.
can possibly knock out barcelona but only if it is deemed absolutely necessary.
is all of this possible? and is this route logical? after looking at a map for so long it all starts to become a blur.
also would love any advice on how to get to and from each destination. obviously we would train it paris-barcelona, and venice-la spezia-rome, etc. but any cheap and efficient ways to enter/leave turkey and egypt?
a big thank you in advance to everyone for taking their time to read and reply!
day trip to monaco
arrive la spezia (cinque terre)
depart cinque terre
including a 3day busabout tour of pompeii, sorrento, capri, amalfi coast (departing and returning to rome)
kusadasi and ephusus
7day egypt tour//busabout. tour ends in LUXOR after breakfast
The route seems logical to me, and it can be cheap if you fly with
Ryanair.com you can get London - Lots of cities on continent for 10$ all taxes included, have to book in advance though.
For trains, you should get a travel pass if you will use it a lot at interrail.com
and you also can get a bus pass at eurolines.com it will take you between all major capitals
the only 2 ways to get to egypt from continent is a boat which costs around 300$ or a flight, which is the same, boat takes 4 days from venice.
once in istanbul you can go to syria ( possible to make visa on arrival ), from syria to jordan, jordan egypt, then fly back to continent.
to get to istanbul so easy from venice or from any major capital, just get to bulgaria and from there to istanbul, or direct from more distant places. also there are other airline companies which serve turkey, like ryanair.com but won't be as cheap.
seems to be a great trip, wish you best of luck with it.
but seems to me all cities are in Europe and only Egypt is in Africa, so why don't you start with Egypt or end with it!
that shuold save you time and effort while travelling.
I think there is no cheap ways to get into Egypt, specially in summer time, unless you try to book early and use a tranist planes. you may can stop by Dubai or somewhere else in the middle east.
i think i've decided to fly into cairo, it would save ALOT of time.
the only reason i had egypt planned for the middle of the trip was because it seemed to fit in with the 'circular direction' i was travelling. but definately will give some thought into starting there, it will probably save me a bit of money aswell.
Thank you so much to both of you for your advice and time.
You are trying to do too much.
Unless you have been there a number of times before, essentially two days in London (allowing for jet lag) will hardly let you see anything. Two days in Paris and Barcelona is just a quick look around. Nice, one day is enough.
Pompeii is a day trip as is Sorento, Capri and Amalfi Coast. You'll need a tour in Rome to see some of the sites in such a short time.
Egypt has ongoing troubles and it's anyone's guess whether all will be well next year. A few mumblings in Turkey also.
Really you would be better getting to see just a few countries properly rather than getting stamps on your passport.
Lots of cheap (online) airlines in Europe and with your schedule you cannot afford to spend lots of time on trains. Even then if you have say a 2 hour flight, that means getting to the airport, and 2 hours early for check-in, etc. Then the other end getting off and getting to town which may be some distance away. Next thing you know, a 2 hour plane trip has taken 7 or 8 hours, city to city.
July 20-25. Recovering.
