My girlfriend and I are planning on going travelling, its probably the last chance we are gonna get before we have too many responsabilities.
What I dont know is if there is any sort of flexible round the world tickets or flexible flights that I can look at or if I should buy the tickets individually.
The places we would like to visit are:
Departing from madrid or london:
--Dar es salaam (tanzania) -I have relatives and wouldnt pay accomodation.
--Maputo (Mozambique) - I have relatives and wouldnt pay accomodation.
--Bangkok (tailand) - Would stay here only for a week or two if I could find cheap accomodation.
--Beijing (China) - I have relatives and wouldnt pay accomodation
Thats all I hace for now.
Budget is about 4.000 € each so 8.000 € total.
Can I get some advice please! thoughts! etc!
You might want to consider getting one of the RTW flight tickets from STA travel or some other adventure travel agency. Sometimes the RTW tickets are cheaper than getting all the tickets separately. Another trick to try is flying into the main hub and then getting smaller connecting flights from there. For example in Europe, flyning to London is often cheaper than anywhere else, and there are loads of cheap flights out of London to the rest of Europe. For Asia - consider looking into arriving to Hong Kong or KL or Singapore and then getting a cheaper air asia flight.
Staying in hostels will cut costs, as will programs such as couchsurfing.org
[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]
A RTW ticket does not have to be all flights, all the way. You can leave gaps, so travel overland or book your own flights. You can also have open dates. The only real condition is that you cannot double back on yourself (so would have to book such travel separately).
The "Evening Standard" and the "Mail on Sunday" newspapers have travel sections with cheap flights, RTW tickets, etc.
Bangkok is a travel hub with cheap flights to most places. Accommodation in Thailand can be very cheap, as can be living there so people tend to spend more time there.
When are you travelling? Asia has a rainy season till sometime in October. Parts of Africa can be wet too. Do consider travel insurance (not that expensive in London, for a year)
thanks for all the advice and help. Yes Im looking at the RTW tickets possibility. Ide like to travel starting in November.....obviously I want to go to those destinatios because I have family there and we would pay for accomodation, except maybe in thailand......
So we would like to depart in November.......its still a very early stage as we are trying to organize and see if we have the money and sort out dates.
Money wise we dont have much, about 4000 € each.....will that be enough? I know it depends on a lot of factors, but more or less average?¿ is it gonna be enough? I know there are a lot of costs, plain tickets, travel, vaccines, food......but considering we can stay in tanzania, mozambique and beijing for free accomodation....I dont know,
Please keep the advice coming, Ive already emailed some companies, the thing is all are uk based and Im in Spain so cant really call them up.....anywas more advice and help please!
Ive been quoted £1896 per person (2.150 €) for London - Dar es salaam - Maputo - Dar es salaam - Bangkok - Beijing - London Route.
No direct flights, all flights are via some other city, but it doesnt look too bad to me......What do you guys think?
Only thing that puts me off is flight from dar and maputo are with ethiopian airlines.....I have never flown with them and dont know if they are any good, safe?¿
Please offer me any advice that you can, oh and by the way does the time I stay in one place affect my price?¿ I mean If I decide to stay in dar 1 month and in maputo 2 and, etc, does that affect the overall price of the flights?¿
