Halong Bay Boat Trips - Cat Ba or Monkey Island? :)

Hi

I'm in Hanoi at the moment and bombarded by tourist trips to Halong Bay and Cat Ba or Monkey Island. Does anyone have a tour company they can recommend? and which is better - to stay on Monkey Island or Cat Ba? I'll probably do a 2/3 night trip.

I enjoyed staying on Cat Ba island. We did a hike up a mountain while we were there and it was incredible!

Thanks for the advice - I did go to Cat Ba Island in the end - unfortunately through a Halong Bay tour, so it was a bit like being herded like cattle. Another time I would have liked to have made my own way there and stayed longer as it looked like a beautiful place. I managed to do the same hike as you aswell
