If you Google:

drug cartels mexico

It brings up 3.83 million sites. Mexico has a very serious problem with drug lords fighting each other and the police at present.

If you go there you may have a perfectly peaceful holiday and you may have the holiday from hell.

Mexico is basically a safe country. The major cities as where I live, Puerto Vallarta, are safer by far re: population than many US/CAN cities. Comparing the murder rate, burglaries, personal attacks, US is way off the charts. Compare Oakland, CA, LA, NYC and Chicago per capita and you will see. Do not be fooled by mass media's attempts to keep all dollars in the states and not promote spending them in Mexico. Times are tight.

Well there is this saying that even in the wooden house you can die from being hit by the falling brick.

I'll certainly try to be cautius as you seem to be a busy and experienced member of forum, Cyberia.

Thank you for your opinion of the "insider", Garyrbeck.

well seems like Cyberia has been busy trying to scare all the people away from Mexico, do you want the beaches alone for yourself? hehe

I'll say in my experience Mexico has become a bit more dangerous but is not like you are risking your life being there, most of the people that have been killed (including foreigners) are drug related, so if you're just on vacation and are respectful to the people and culture you'll be fine...also the houses are made of cement so they are way stronger than the wooden houses we have in Vancouver

adios, mucha suerte!

we're looking for a rideshare down to Mexico (say, Puerto Vallarta) from SF Bay Area. We could move down to LA or over to Arizona if you wanted to meet up with us there, but our destination is ALL THE WAY SOUTH: We're going through Centrale to South America and hitting about every country on the way.

We're tramping hard, so it's backpacks and survival kits, caving, camping and hitchhiking - no hotels, no taxis, few busses, no free cash to speak of, so expenses need to be kept Minimal!

Having said that, something could be negotiated, and we'd all surely have an AWESOME TIME.
I have myself and two girls, we're all worldly, open people, fun loving and honest. Our venture echos yours: Let's get out there, see THE WORLD and have a ton of fun!

Sure, there's some worries for us, especially in the northern parts of mexico, so we're looking for a rideshare down to about Puerto Vallarta, but taking us anywhere in Mexico that far south would be fine.

Shall we see what we can do?
Email me through this website and we'll get in touch about it!

Hope to meet you soon!!

AJ and Sam

Hey! If you consider to visit Manzanillo don't hesitate and let me know, I could be helpful as I grow up there.

Best regards!
