Just came across this forum, and didnt realise there were so many people in a similar situation. I really want to go travelling to Australia for a year in about Sept or Oct time this year, but all my friends are either not interested or dont have the cash. Havent got anything booked yet as I dont know if i could actually go it alone!
Want to get planning and get things booked soon.
I am a 22 year old female and would love to speak to anyone who is wanting to do a similar thing :-)
I am pretty much in the exact same position as you... I am defo going but the planning is becoming a chore!
My original plans were to leave the UK at the end of Sept but some things have come up with work which i really wanna do before i leave so i am looking to book my flight in the next few weeks for 16th Oct.
My plans are those of a schizophrenic atm as there are soooo many things to do and timing wise its just driving me up the wall
I am 99% certain I am going to fly to Cairns and stay up there (doing god knows what!!) until mid Dec then flying down to Sydney for the New Year and hopefully getting a job in Sydeney for a few months before heading back up the East Coast and fruit picking for a few months. I dunno if those are kinda similar to the plans you have?
I have no set plans yet but definately want to go to Sydney for xmas and new year and then stay there for a few months after!! Also looking to go on to do the fruit picking if i decide that i want to stay for more than a year.
Would you be wanting to get a direct flight to oz or were you looking to stop off anywhere? I wud be interested in stopping in thailand or sumwhere like that for a week or 2, or somewhere along the way! I think a direct flight would kill me.
I dont really have an idea of where i want to fly into, so open to anywhere really! Had thot of melbourne or perth. But carins wud be good too! Suppose it wud be easy enough to get a job for a couple of months, before moving on. :-)
Originally I had planned to spend some time in Thailand and Bali before travelling down to AUS but I had a buddy at that point.... Now I am travelling alone and decided (through my mum, boss and various other people concerned for my well being) that it would be a safer option for me to flight straight to AUS, meet some friends and then travel back up to Thailand at some point with them. So prob do a direct flight (although its a more expensive option) just outta safety as its my first time travelling alone.
Honestly, my plans are really scatty as its proving really difficult for me to work out 'whats for the best'... all i do know is that:
1. i cannot afford to not work,
2. i wanna be in Sydney for the New Year so need to get a hostel booked asap
3. at some point I wanna fruit pick so I have the chance to stay on for a further year.
Apart from that, I am really open (although I'm not so sure about Perth and Western AUS)
Cairns seemed like a good idea as a starting point doing casual work to cover the cost of living (I have been advised that a salary of about $1000AUS a month would cover basic living costs but not so sure how true that is) and trying to get in as much sight seeing as possible up at the Great Barrier Reef etc before heading down for a 'properr' job in Sydney.
How far are you with your plans? And do my scatty ideas seem to make sense to you? Duno if i am maybe over thinking it all...
