I have recently come into a great deal of money, and desperately want to plan a round the world trip. As insane as this sounds, my husband and I want to experience every country in the world and now that we have the means to do so, are at a loss in regards to the planning and logistics of such a daunting voyage. If any one ahs any tips, I would be extremely appreciative! thank-you.

Are you really sure you want to see EVERY country?

There are over 200 countries to visit - some quite dangerous, some remote, some incredibly small. For instance, how does a week in Iraq sound? It wouldn't be for me.

That said, it does sound like a very fun challenge and one that is sure to keep you busy for a looong time. I'd say, tackle one continent at a time. Probably start in Europe. I'd think the best way to do it would be by car, as some countries are so close together it would be pointless to fly. Also, that way, you get to see a lot more of the countryside. I'm not sure how long I'd allow for Europe - probably 6-12 months, if you want to have a reasonable look around.

So, do one step at a time, slowly ticking of countries and continents. Hmm, it does sound fun :)

Well, if money and time are not an issue, I'd just get the car out of the garage, pack your stuff and start driving.

This would be the best way of seeing country by country in the continents I think....

How much money are we talking about? I don't have any experience (I'm going on my own RTW in June 2006) but I'm quite sure that it'll cost you some serious cash..

You should start plan what continent you want to tackle first? (probably Europe as Peter says, but you could start in your own continent as well) Write down all the countries you've been to and make a list of the one's left, uncheck them after each country..

If money really is no object, the only problem is then time. If time is no object, it's actually incredibly easy to plan. If you just want to see/explore them all in any order, the trick is to condsider it in logical chunks as opposed the whole world as one. And you can also do all the currently available countries now, adding the less stable ones as and when they become more stable over the years, as nowhere is ever really completely offlimits for more than a few years. In all honesty, to my mind, you wouldn't even need to plan very much at all if money really isn't a problem. Simple basic logic plus a reasonable geographic grasp plus enough funds will get you to everwhere without any great planning, with very few exceptions (i.e. israel), and even those can generally be overcome with money and time (i.e. for israel, a second passport)

If time is a problem, you may end up doing something like the 2 kiwi nutters who have not long broke the world record for visiting every country in the shortest time, but many of which they were in for a matter of only hours or in cases minutes - just long enough to get the log signed. But if you have, for example, a year, it would be possible but rushed as heck, 2-4 years or longer, would be much easier.

If you really are serious about the venture and what more ideas about planning/logistics/help etc, send me a msg or reply here.
