I'll be arriving in Cambodia towards the end of October, flying into Phnom Penh for a few days, then will make my way up to Siem Riep. I'll be travelling alone. Anybody any suggestions as to good places to stay? I'm not really after crazy party venues, although I don't mind a bit of it. I'll probably stay in hostels or budget/mid-range guesthouses.

Any advice much appreciated!

I took a look at the 'accommodation' option, top of this page. There are several I saw that might be worth a look. I would try to stay by the river if possible. Good luck with your planning.

Thanks, vegasmike6!

I had a look there and it seems to regurgitate hostel world info. Just wondered if anyone had any direct recent experiences of hostels/guesthouses/budget hotels there. At the moment I'm tempted to book into the Lazy Gecko but hope it's not all 18-30 parties (as I'm too old to be allowed in!)

Here is one you might look at. I have eaten at Boddhi Tree, but not stayed there. Very quiet, nice vibe, good veggie menu. My quibble is location. In heart of PP. We always stayed close to Capitol GH after 2000. One of our Pattaya friends moved to PP and we wanted to be within walking distance of his apt. Before 2000 we stayed down by the river. That is where I recommend you stay. Plenty of places to eat, Mekong Express leaves from Sisowath Quay up to Siem Reap.

Good luck with your planning.
