Hi,
Thanks for looking at this.
With regard to the editing the line, I still think that the ability to edit the curve should be there for all types. By default the land transport can follow roads, railway lines etc, but if people want to move the line or do not want to follow a road, then the edit curve function should be available.

Most of my transport is marked as flights so that I can edit the line to ensure that it looks good on the map, i.e. aesthetic reasons. To only allow editing on the "unspecified" type will upset the stats as well. There will be large values in the "unspecified" total and very little in the other categories.

This begs the question of what is the purpose of the map? My belief is that it is to assist the reader in understanding where you have been at a reasonably high level, rather than a detailed satnav style of trip. Do readers need to know that I drove from city A to town B via the M1 motorway, then the A123 main road and finally the B4567 country lane? If I think that it is important then I would include it in the narration.

Thanks very much for adding the hide lines as a future enhancement and for looking at the visits / stop issue.

Regards,
Glynn

I think the purpose of the map largely depends on who is using it. Lots of people are also using it to plan their trips. In that instance, directions from a > b are actually very handy if they are integrated. Others want an accurate record of their trip, so having the line follow the road they travelled on is also important to them. Maybe it needs to be optional to make directions trace the road, but from my understanding of the feedback so far, I'm pretty sure that the majority would like to see land transport follow the road.

Hi,
I take your point with regard to people using it in different ways.
The way that I use the map will be different to other people. What I am asking is that the system allows the user to have the option to use it in a different way.

Thanks for fixing the map on the bottom of the stats page. It now has the correct number of visits showing on the mouseover hover.

Regards,
Glynn

I think we pretty much are in agreement on this. The tricky thing from our point of view is that the more "options" we create, the more confusing everything can become for new users. It's a classic dilemma of balancing the needs of the power-user vs the beginner.

Hi,
I agree totally. I used to work for a software company in a previous life in the UK and know all about scope creep and so on.

Small issue. I have added another trip (way back in 1998!) and only some of the countries appear on the map on the stats page. All the Central American countries and Mexico are coloured and show a hover, but the USA is not coloured at all.

Thanks,
Glynn

Ah, interesting. This is probably down to us naming it differently to Google. Will have a look into it!

Have you ever calculated your carbon footprint??!! Do you realize how much you contribute to the global warming?

I haven't done an exact calculation, but I think my contribution roughly amounts to 0.0000000000000000001% . Or a bit less.

I'm actually very conscious of my carbon footprint. I generally offset all my trips by planting trees. Not only that, but I own shares in a windfarm, buy all my electricity from 100% renewables, drive a hybrid car and catch a train to work. I still like to travel though and am not about to give that up. Since offsetting is about the only option available to minimise the impact, that's what I do.

The US issue is now fixed. I've also updated the map code a bit in the process because there was a newer option available that didn't require rendering it in flash. This means it will also load that country map on iOS devices. A little less pretty I must admit though.
