It can be a useful tool if you are going to a region where theft can be a problem.

Although it is a very generic statement, but most of Asia is safe. It might be useful on trains though or just to tie it on the rood of a bus.

In Europe, on trains and in hostels, it can be a good idea.

On the American continent, it is actually almost recommended. Especially in Latin America.

Two things that are against it: it's weight and steep price.

thx for the response. ım thınkıng at just 1 lbs ıt wouldnt be much of a hındrance, but do you thınk your standard wıre cutters would be able to snıp thıs apart?

hi, i was contemplating to buy one but it was to heavy for my purpose.

simple wire cutter won't work, but of course with a more serious tool anything can be cut.

in less developed countries, such advanced tools are rare, so you don't have to worry. and in any case, the main purpose is to secure it against grab-and-run and pick pocketing, which are the most typical thefts. thieves are always opportunistic, so if you have some strong protection they will likely choose another backpack...
