Hi, my name is Paul and I'm from Ireland. I was originally planning to travel europe for a month this summer but my plans have changed and I plan to travel Feb 2012 but for up to 6 months, maybe longer.

As I said I was orginally going to travel for just a month but my girlfriend has decided to travel with me and we've decided to make it longer, we'd love it people could give us some advise or some travel tips. We're leaving it til Feb so we can save money and it would be persumably cheaper that time of year. Our plan is a little vague at the moment but we plan to travel mostly by train and cheap flights and stay in hostels. Obviously this trip would be quite expensive so we wondered would it be easy to pick up part time work on the continent(bar work etc)? We plan to see the main cities throughout europe and if we like a place we might plan to stay a little longer than other places, depending on work.

I look forward to hearing from people on this site and would appreciate any advise.

Paul :)

That would be a good plan, Paul. Trains and cheap flights would save you money. Try booking them ahead to get discounts. Also, look for flights that might be on sale for a discounted price during those times. Check and book train tickets and schedules in advance too. It would be better if you could already map out the places that you'll be visiting. In that way, you can track the most efficient way to get around the place.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. :)

Does anyone have any thoughts on finding work? I'm really interested in finding out because if we like a place we might stay a month or so and financially this would be a huge benefit. And does anyone have any idea how much 6 months travelling would cost us roughly? We'd just like to have a rough estimate on how much to save.

Hope to get some more replies soon so thanks in advance :)
