Hi would like to know which hostels are recommendable in paris and barcelona ... which areas to avoid. I really don't know which to choose. I would also like to know if it is cheaper travelling by train or bus...
Thanks for the boost!

Hi there!

In Paris, a great hostel is the BVJ:Paris Louvre. Great location, pretty good price, and it's not dirty - what more could you ask for! :)

In Barcelona, avoid the Ideal Youth hostel. Good location, but rude staff, not very clean, you have to pay for sheets, and it has an icky smell.

Travel in Europe is always cheaper by bus. It takes longer and is usually less pleasant. I would probably recommend to spend the extra few dollars and go by train.

As for city travel, the metro and bus are usually the same price per ride. The metro is less confusing (in my opinion) because you have a nice map to look at and find your way.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Katie ;)

Hi Shante,
When I was in Paris I stayed over in a hostel called Bastille. It was very popular among the backpackers! It's near the graveyard where Jim Morrison's buried.I liked that hostel.:)

Hi, Hostel Itaca (http://www.itacahostel.com/) is really great! I stayed there last summer and have to say it's been one of the best hostels i'd been. Great atmosphere, staff and location!

hey!
a great hostel in Paris is the Young and Happy Youth Hostel, located on rue Mouffetard. It's in the Latin Quarter and is a really unique experience... I think its in the 5th or 6th sections....

hi,

i found when i was in paris that the metro was great- the trains run regularly, its fairly easy to understand and i'm somewhat ashamed to admit that everytime i got on it i got excited- maybe it was just the whole idea of being underground!! good luck with whatever you decide,

cheers,

Hi there:
I have been to Barcelona several times and I love Gothic Point Hostel. It is the best and plus it is cheap. I have stayed at other ones and the only reason was that they were redecorating Gothic Hostel - even though I thought it was nice to begin with for a hostel. This place is right in Via Laietana..very near from the center, where you can find some bars, clubs, etc, and good shopping. This is the perfect location. Plus, there are museums (museo Picasso) around that area, restaurants and lots of transportation. The bus and the metro is right there. I loved that place and if I need to stay in a hostel again, i would choose this place. They also have a website - so check it out!
