Hi there, my friend & myself are looking to go travelling in February 2012 for a year! We would like to start in Sydney Australia & on from there.
Can anyone give us any advice on where the best places are to go / stay? We are going to apply for a Working Holiday Visa so we can work whilst travelling. Is there any minumum too how much money we would need to take? We were thinking between £3-5k? we would like to travel on too Thailand after also? Also any tips / website / things to know would be grately appriciated! :) Thank you.

Thanks for your reply, my friend and I are just looking to get away and experience new places, meet new people etc. Definitely up for a party as well! Where have you been along your travels? :-)

I went to Australia a couple of years ago & wish I was back there now. I, like most backpackers, went to Sydney first where I did my work for a few months. I then moved on to Queensland to Noosa in the Sunshine Coast, this is a great place to wind down & relax for a few days, Brisbane, Surfers Paradise & Cairns.

Sydney is the place to start. I felt right at home as I lived in Bondi & all I heard where Irish accents!!!!

What did you do for work whilst you were in Sydney? Is it easy to find work whilst travelling?

I worked in a call centre. It's easy to find work if you're not picky. Office work can be good as you'll have your weekends off to go out!! Bar work is the most popular option but the money aint that good & with the bars in Sydney you'll probably be working up to 3 or 4am. Waiter/Waitress is another popular one. It is easy because you'll find backpacker magazines all over the place, hostels, internet cafes etc... & they have accommodation listings & jobs listed too. Try that's the best Oz job website. Most hostels can quote you a longstay option, this is when they give you a weekly price for your room & you just pay every week & check out when you need to check out!

You'll be fine, It's a bit strange at first. I was only 21 when I went over & I was by myself & so far away from home but actually it was the greatest experience ever!
