Today, 09 Feb 2005, is Chinese New Year's day.
It's the year 4702 for the Chinese calendar and the celebrations will last for 15 day.
Here I wish all the Chinese in TP a happy, joyous and prosperous new year.
XIN NIAN KUAI LE!!!
(Pronounced as "sin nien khuai ler", which in Mandarin, literally means Happy New Year)
Happy New Year !!! Hope its a great one !
Ditto on the Happy New Year!!! What year is it? (ie: dog, roster, monkey...)
Apparently, Chinese ppl arent suppose to touch anything sharp for the next week or something - it's bad luck. Is that right?
Yup, Rooster it is!
Here's the sequence:
Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.
The taboo is that we aren't supposed to sweep or clean anything in the house and not cutting anything off our body, i.e. hair and fingernails, on the first day.
I haven't heard of any taboo about not touching anything sharp. If that is really true, how should one prepare meal without a knife then?!
And just for the record, a new day in Chinese calendar actually starts at 11:00:00pm and ends at 10:59:59pm the following day.
I'm sure I got it wrong Hien!
Happy New Year! 4702. Hmm.. some catching up to do.
Happy New Year from Oslo!!
Happy new year all travelling people!
I will be celebrating in China Town here in London on Sunday.
