Hello everyone!!

As part of our around the world, my girlfriend and I will be travelling in the USA/Canada for 1.5 month and we know that the accomodation there will have a big impact to our budget.

We are travelling as a couple and would like to have our private room:
Do you think that it will be cheaper to go to hostels or to get a room in a 1 star hotel or cheap motel?
I could understand that when you book a double room in a hostel the price is per person... but if you book a cheap hotel the price is per room.

Thank you in advance for your help.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Quentin

Quentin,
Have you thought about couchsurfing? or Globalfreeloaders? Free rooms and you are staying with locals. You will have a much richer experience meeting locals in each city than staying in another motel. Why don't you join and then take a look at what couches are being offered in the places you want to visit? It may be the answer to the high cost of visiting North America.

Most motels in the US are in the $50 range. Take a look at the hostel prices for that city and you will know which option is better for you. Good luck with your planning.

The US is terrible for low cost accommodations when compared to the rest of the world - the main reason this American travels outside of the USA! Those $50. rooms are usually only available in smaller cities or in extremely bad neighborhoods. In NYC better think about $100. rooms at the bottom of the scale.
