Meant to mention this the other day when it happened...

I wrote an extensive reply for the 'travelling abroad with cats, need advise please' in GT. (I even comment about the incident in my reply. I wrote my response, clicked preview and lost everything. It brought up the response box rather than the preview of my reply. I clicked 'refresh', hoping my response would show up - nope. I just got the thread and the blank box. I also tried the back button to no avail. I had to start over. (Knew I should have done the copy/paste thing before clicking preview.) It doesn't happen all of the time but often that I'd like. A bit frustrating when there are quite a few links involved.

Anyway, just curious why it's happening.

Grrr, sorry about that :( I'm not really sure why this problem occurs. Your session should be kept alive so long as you are writing in the text area and that should really entirely avoid the issue. Obviously not though - I'm not sure if this is browser specific or what. I'll try to look into it more today and hopefully replicate the issue. That's usually the hardest part, actually being able to reproduce it!

Hi Peter - I used the laptop with Safari 5.0.5. I have recently done all the updates for both Macs. Also had cleared out cookies and emptied the cache on both machines two days earlier.

Would have reported it sooner but some wizard cut through the major signal supply lines in Rockford - 40 miles away. Oops, no internet connection for all of Aeroinc's users on Saturday. Signal was finally restored by Sunday morning. Gee, I hate when that happens.

This has happened to be once before too (maybe a month or two ago), but I generally use IE9. Was a bit irritating as I took a while looking up things for the person (can't remember what it was about now though!).

I tried today to leave a reply sitting in Safari for about 40 minutes and it still previewed ok.. Were you using the "quick reply" form (at the bottom of the thread) or were you posting on the actual full size reply page?

Actually both. The first reply I wrote was via the quick reply box at the bottom of the page. When rewriting the reply, I used the full-sized reply page and it still repeated the problem - giving me the original thread page with an quick reply box. Second time, I was smart enough to copy everything before clicking preview. So, happened with both reply styles.

oh well, now at least I know it's not just one of the pages. That's progress too I guess :?

I'm sorry it's so inconsistent, which makes it that much harder to track down. (Rather like the comments weirdness on TB - damn spammers.)

Good luck! With mojorob responding, at least I know I'm not the only one who's had the problem or I'd be blamed for breaking the reply area. Okay, that's still a possibility...

Do you remember if you were visiting any other pages on travellerspoint in other tabs between starting to write the post and clicking preview? (And if so, which pages those were?)

Yes, I remember and no. I click 'new window' to search for each link, etc. I did not use any TP pages to answer the request. I have a routine, I move through Google+, then Facebook, then TP, then TravelBlogs. If there's something to answer on TP, I bring up separate windows for the links. I did not have other tabs for TP things up as the one's I may have considered of use were out of date and wanted recent info. I then move on to the TB stuff. Rarely do I use the tabs for other TP pages. This was not one of them to be sure. I had one TP page open for the response box(es) and ones for the links I ultimately made. There were no other TP pages open during the 2 sessions.

I hope that makes sense... :)
