Possible Offline Version?

Travel Forums System Talk Possible Offline Version?

Hello,

I've noticed a couple of other blog websites offering offline 'apps' that allow a blog to be written, with photos etc, exactly as you would have it published - although offline.

The main idea being you could constantly be writing and creating entries with photos etc offline, and then bulk upload all of them without having any fuss when you eventually come across internet again.

Currently what I'm doing is writing them in word and copy pasting them when I find internet. It's a bit of a painstaking process to upload the photos, insert them etc. and I'm getting a fair backlog of entries as I search for rare internet (often dial-up) in rural areas.

Just an idea :)

Cheers, Kyle

Something like this is indeed in the works :) I'm not sure if Peter will jump in here and give some kind of estimate on a launch date, but we were hoping to get it up sooner rather than later!

Are you talking about an app for Iphone or Ipad here? I would love that since I especially bought an Ipad to reduce my luggage weight and also abviously for practical reasons. :)

Yep, should work on both... I think there'll be a few bloggers that have some use of this :)

Yes, definitely in the works and offline capability is an important part of the plan. Plan is that people can choose to only sync on a wifi connection too, if they don't want to use up 3G data. Hopefully in the next couple of months we'll have this up and running. Blogging is the primary focus of the first version of the app.

For the time being, you can *sort of* do offline editing if you send in your blog entries by email. Embedding photos etc will all work as well - you just attach them to the email. Getting the images in the right spot is a little more involved, but definitely possible as well.

Will the 'app' be available to use on PC? or just iPhone/pad

If by PC you mean Android, then yes, that is the plan. Though not sure if they will be released exactly the same time. The way it's being built though, it should be relatively easy to have the app running in both.

We will have a mobile web interface probably launching before the app which can be used as well. This should work quite nicely with Android too.

The only downside of the mobile web interfaces being that they can't access the photos on a mobile (yet)... hence the necessity of an actual 'offline' app to fix that.
