Hey Jemma and Jenny!
Sorry i have been really bad at checking this fourm over the last few days. Im planning on staying in Oz for a year or maybe longer if i like it! But to begin with im just on a WHV. Im not planning on staying in melbourne all of that time. Although I do plan to stay in melbourne until after the new year atleast! As I want to get a job there and settle before i travel and see the rest of Oz.
I have just seen this thread and thought I would join. My name is Katie and I am going to Australia alone for 6 months. Starting to get very nervous/excited as I have never done anything like this before.
I arrive in Melbourne on the 25th Oct and I am planning on staying there for a while as I have heard from so many people hat it is an amazing place. Then I plan to travel up the East Coast.
I cannot make up my mind on where to stay for Christmas and New Year - although I am thinking Melbourne so it would be cool to meet up if anyone else has similar ideas.
Melbourne = amazing in September. Weather is starting to pick up! 20degrees + for this whole week and not a cloud in the sky!
Pack light coz its gonna be a hot summer!
Make sure you catch the AFL grand final on October 1st, big day in aussie culture! Plenty of drinking and partying
wow sounds fab, glad its gonna be hot!!
Anyone know what u can do if u extend your visa for the 2 years and then want to stay?
Also where the best place is to go for new year?
Hey guys!!! I fly into melb on the 6th oct, will be Job hunting also, but really don't know what sort of work... I'm also thinking of the fruit picking thing to perhaps extend my visa!
I don't have any set plans about where and when to travel in Aus! I was thinking about the Sydney new year thong too as it's meant to be amazing! Can't wait!!
Be cool to meet up with a few people at some point! My email address is vicky_angel87 (hotmail email but can't add my email to this) if you Wana add me on facebook!
If you're in Melboourne, theres a few ticketed events you can go to around the CBD and Docklands area. The streets are closed for NYE as theres just thousands of people everywhere! Public transport is free so you its pretty easy to travel around the city.
Last year i went to a place in NSW - Byron Bay, full of backpackers and it was probably one the best Aussie NYE's i've had! Sydney is meant to be good for NYE as well!
I'm 22 and live in Melbourne, let us know if you want any more info!
Thanks for the information!
I'm not sure where i'll be for NY but at least i know now a few places!
I think my sister went to byron bay and loved it so i definatley want to visit!
I can't wait to go!
Any of you around on September 20th are more than welcome to come along to the Travel Massive event that I'm helping organise. It's at the European Bier Café in the CBD. You can find details here
There will be a lot of other travellers, travel industry people and travel bloggers attending. Expecting about 30+ people. Basically we just sit around, have drinks and talk travel! Very informal. Come say hello to some locals

Ive literally just signed up to this website and just seen your post about flying out on the 16th. Im 22 from Manchester, but in Bali at the moment. I fly to Melbourne on the 16th and need to find work there asap to carry on my travels. Are you going to be in Melbourne or somewhere else looking for work? I also need to look into finding a flat/house share if you know anything about that sort of thing? My facebook is Rachel Garland (photo of me and the KL tower) if you want to get in touch.
