Yeah, I'm sure - I always forget that Canada has that history with the French.
I remember going up to visit a friend of mine in Belfast and he wouldnt let me order my own drink in the pub because of my accent. (I'm from the Southwest)
Actually on another note...(i dont want to hijack this thread) but what's Quebec like...I'm half thinking of working in Canada for a couple of months on a RTW trip...is it easy to find work there? My brother was in Canada recently and he came back raving about the place - wants to go and live there...
I really, really love it here. Quebec is a very open and tolerant society (I was reading in the paper this week that religious-right leaders from the U.S. were calling Quebec politicians to influence their decision on same-sex marriage - good luck!!!).
Montreal in particular is a fantastic city - great food, a mix of cultures, history, festivals, and on and on. There are always things to do here. I can't tell you about living in the rest of the country, though. It's huge and each province is pretty unique.
I hear it's pretty easy to find work here. There's always a stint in one of our Irish pubs!
Cool - well, I might give it some serious thoughts. The like the CAnadian sense of humour anyway, it's kind of dry. I've heard good things about Montreal...might be back to pick your brains if I decide to go ahead with it Tway!
apologies - i appear to have lost the ability to speak coherently today....
Let me know if/when you decide to come over. I'll try to scrounge up whatever info I can find. Maybe we can swap apartments and save some $$$...!
Well unless you want to stay with my Mum and Dad Tway...
That would be great! Will engage in some proper research on Montreal now...!
