Hi Dave,

do you plan to use the sim cards to dial back home or for local calls? I don´t know exactely about the countries you will visit, but I´m not sure it is so easy to buy a sim card as a tourist. Last time I was in Taiwan for example, a friend had to help me to buy a card, because they only allowed permanent residents to get them.
What I plan to do for my upcoming travel is to simply use skype on my iphone whenever I can connect to a wifi signal.

Niels

it's better to buy local sim card to call if you find that it is cheaper. A lot of guests come to Vietnam and buy sim card, it is very cheap, just about less than 4$ per sim and you can have promotion account, main account that are enough for you to use.

Welcome to Myanmar (Burma) check it out as follow;

Mobile Phone Rental Service Available at Yangon International Airport Myanmar (Burma)

Hi

Yadanarpon teleport opens a shop at Yangon international airport renting mobile phone handsets and SIM cards to foreign visitors. The shop will offer GSM, CDMA-450, and CDMA-800 SIM cards as well as various handsets. Both require a deposit of US$ 100.00.

Yatanarpon Teleport

Mobile Phone Rental Service Available at Yangon Airport, Myanmar
SIM cards and handsets rental charges will be US$ 2.00 per day. Smartphone handsets will also be available for US$ 4.00 per day. CDMA-800 SIM cards could be used to access the internet.
The rental does not include call charges. Those renting a SIM card would need to purchase a “top up card”, which cost from Kyats 10,000.00 to Kyats 30,000.00

Now changed a deposit of US$ 50.
