Hi,

Shortly i will be setting off on my rtw trip. I have a query about local sim cards for the iphone. I was planning on taking my iphone 4 with me and popping in a local sim at each destination only to realise that the iphone takes a micro sim. Can you get hold of these in other countries?? Or am i better buying a cheap fone that will accept a normal sim card. The reason i wanted to take my iphone is that it is also carries all my music.

The countries i am going to are, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Oz, Nz and the states.

Any advice would be appreciated x

seriously what you should do is to get a micro sim-cutter. since u live in UK, u can get a sim cutter on amazon cheaply. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=micro+sim+cutter&x=0&y=0 u can probably get it in the stores as well, but i'm not sure where exactly u can find it.

do some research on which are the best prepaid sim cards in each country, to get the best deal. u'll probably wanna get a sim card with data plan too... that way ur iPhone4 can still be used as a navigation device etc. u can also download travel apps for ur iPhone.. there are so many apps available for travellers to each country.. some offer info for public transport, tips on sightseeing, etc.

enjoy ur trip! it sounds like it's gonna be an amazing experience. :)

actually you can even use a pair of small scissors to trim a normal simcard into a micro simcard. There are free guides like the following one that you can use for the task.

I just printed out the file, glued it on the simcard and cut it according the pattern. It worked perfectly.

I will also take my iphone with me during my upcoming trip, but keep my german card as I will mainly use skype to call people back home.
