Hi All,

Having read the visas thread at the top of this forum page i am still a bit confused about the rules of entering Thailand.

If you enter via train or road, can you only stay for 15 days? and with plane it's 30 days?

Also i spoke to someone in a travel agency yesterday and she said you can contact the Thai embassy to apply for an extended visa, is this correct?

Many thanks,

Visas for Thailand can be confusing. A list of countries that qualify for the free 30 day entry permit is at the top: 'FAQ-Thailand-Visa'. I will assume your country is listed. You will receive a free 30 day entry permit when flying into Tland. This can be extended another 7 days for 1,900 baht by visiting an Immigration Office before your 30 days expire. If you cross into Tland via a land border, you will only receive a free 15 day entry permit. You can extend this permit for another 7 days for 1,900 baht.

You might want to buy a 60 day visa before leaving your home country. This might be cheaper and less hassle than extending your 30 day entry permit or making a visa run to the border for 15 more days. Good luck with your planning.

If you want to stay longer you can get a cheap flight out of Thailand with AirAsia, etc for a day or more and come back and get another 30 day stay in Thailand (this sort of visa exemption is limited to 90 days total over a 180 day period)

How much time do you need in Thailand?

If you can even get the free 30 days flying in depends on the country passport you are traveling with.

I'm from the UK, i will have a look into contacting the Thai embassy to see if i can get an extended visa. if not the option of getting a cheap air asia flight into thailand seems an option. Does anyone know the nearest airport to Kho Phan Gnan, i will have to go straight there for the full moon party.
I was intending to go in by land from Malaysia which isn't too far from the island, but if i have to fly in it iwll be a different matter

BKK Air flies into Koh Samui. You can get a ferry from Samui to Koh Phangan. It might make more sense to just buy a 60 day visa before you leave the UK and go overland from Malaysia.
