I'm planning on travelling to SE Asia in Feb for 6 weeks. I am a nurse and want to volunteer in some sort of care setting, an orphanage helping to look after the kids for a couple of weeks. However I can't afford to pay the big companies the fees and since I will be in SE Asia I wanted to volunteer while I was there. Does anyone know of anywhere I can do this?

check out the website for 'volunteers for peace'. I have never booked through them but they offer volunteer programs all over the world at a reasonable price. I am not sure if it is limited to americans or if anyone can organize something through them.

Well if you are coming around to Nepal. There's plenty of place where you don't need to pay big fees or anything. There's this orphanage/school my friend's run. Let me know if you are interested.

Have a safe and sound trip!

There is an organization in Northern Thailand called The Association for Education and Culture in Thailand

Another one is called the Future Light Orphanage of Worldmate in Cambodia

I have friends in Phnom Penh that help orphans and poor families with basic needs: food, shelter, medical care, schooling, etc. No fees involved. Send me a PM if interested. Mike
