I am landing in Brisbane on the 30th of September, and intend to try stay for the two years, and I am really looking for advice on weather or not to do the regional stuff straight away after a week on the lash of course or get a bit of a base going and panic on the ninth month :-). If anyone is on the same page give me a shout as I am landing solo.

Alright Ray,
I'm landing in Brisbane on the 1st of October. Staying with family for a while until I get sorted with a job and stuff. I'll be looking for somewhere to rent after I get sorted with a job so if your looking for someone to rent with give us a shout.

I am doing the exact same thing as yourself in terms of doing the regional thing aswell. More then likely when I get over there I will do it straight away after a week or so just to get it out of the way as soon as possible so I have more time to look for a full time job and possibly get sponsored. I'd say get it out of the way as soon as you can. I'll probably do the farming thing how about you? I'm heading over on my own aswell so ill be looking make friends yada yada. Because your pretty much doing the same thing as myself we could meet up and organise to do it early on. up to yourself. whats your plans when you arrive? you staying in a hostel?

Well Dude,
Ya the plans are to stay at a mates till I get organised. The flat share thing I would be well up for that. I am hoping to go in to construction or mining and go on the same path you are either to get sponsorship, a skilled work visa and if it is not put through on time guarantee myself the second visa. I was speaking to a Rugby club south of Brisbane and they are offering jobs in agri or bar work obviously to play with them but they say it will suffice as the regional work.

I would be well up for trying to get the regional work sorted early. My plans are to get the bank account verified, get the white card course sorted so I can work on the sites.

But ya mates are always welcome :-), what good you will be for a session landing on the first you will be jet lagged as fuck.

But anways messing done I would be well up for trying to get some sort of a plan going.

What rugby club were you talking to? I was talking to a few lads who play for the Brisbane Irish and they were saying the same thing about the agri business and the regional work.

I have a couple of mates coming over about a month after me and they will probably be moving in somewhere or else staying in a hostel until they find a place. I was going to move in with them if I havent got a place before they arrive and vise versa.

I'm well up for getting a white card sorted and doing the whole construction thing or the argi stuff just to get the second year visa sorted.

My uncle lives on the Gold coast so I will be with them for a week or 2. Your probably stayin closer to Brisbane are ye? I'll more then likely take a few days to get over the jetlag but after that I'll get going with the white card and other things. I'm getting a mobile sorted and stuff when I get there so If ye want to meet up and organise a plan I'll send you my number when I get there.

As far as a session when you land goes???? fucked is the right word there. Not a chance in hell Id say. im on an 18 hour flight from Adu Dhabi so ill be in not state to go on the lash anywhere!!

The crack is you can apPly for the card, while your here I am doing it online and getting it Posted to my mates house over in Brisbane, if ye are up for a flat share the more the merrier cause rent looks sauce enough so if we get a 4 or 5 bed it may be cheaper, can you PM on this I don't wanna be Putting my mobile out on the thread, the lad reckons he will sort me a job handy enough so not too badly off wanna get working quick cause he said it's handy enough burn through it there. I have everything near enough sorted out so not too bad account and all that just gonna walk in grab a sim at the terminal when I land. In regards to where I wanna live I will follow the good money would love to get in to the mines as I have a degree in civil.

I was looking at the Brisbane Irish too to play with the crOwd I was looking at are out in the sticks a bit I think but I haven't their name at hand at the minute

You should have no trouble getting into the mining industry with a civil degree. My cousin lives in north Brisbane and studied civil. He's been there for a few years now but he got a job in mining within the first year of being there ( traveling and working other jobs for the best part of a year)

Also my mates friend who moved over there last year works for an oil company and he only had 6 months work experience after leaving college and he got a job within 2 months of arriving. I studied transport engineering (logistics, supply chain etc.) and by the looks of things there are plenty of jobs available, but at the moment I'm probably more focused on getting that second year visa to give me more time to get a full time job.

I'll send you a pm when I arrive and get sorted with the number and stuff. I was looking at rent prices and they are fairly expensive so a 4 or 5 bed is the best option id say. As far as location goes near the city would suit or between brisbane and the gold coast but im not too fussy, as you say wherever the money is!! plenty out there by the sounds of things!! ha

If your looking for civil jobs, this company might be of interest to you

You may or may not have heard of them but there one of the biggest engineering contractors in the world and have got a load of contracts in OZ. My dad knows the CEO and got me to send my cv on for their logistical side. He says they have a number of job openings in OZ at the moment.

By the way ye have to play for the brisbane irish lad............sure its where all the craic is!!

Alright guys, Just reading your posts... interesting?! Im heading out to oz in January spending a few weeks over on the east coast but then I was going to head over to Brisbane for a few weeks.

Basically im 31 next year so its now or never for me in terms of acquiring that 2yr WHV, so i'm planning on doing some job hunting over in Brisbane, i quite fancy the Mines... dont know if you guys have contacts etc in that sector or how easy it is to gain employment..?!?!

Im currently and have been a firefighter for the last 7 years and just fancy a change and ofcourse away from this awful country that we call the UK.;)

Alright Shaun, glad were on the same page in terms of getting out of awful countries, were in the same shit over here!!

In terms of getting a job in the mining industry. My dad knows a couple of people working in the industry and they say it is difficult to get your foot in the door as they say if you don't have some for of experience i'e working on construction sites, driving dumpers or loaders etc. That being said I was told it is possible to get a job in the mines if you go through an agency whole recruits specifically for the mines. I've sent out a number of applications to get into the mines and have little success. Serious money in the mines so I'd love to get some work there.

Your best bet if you want to acquire that 2nd year visa is to get a job in the construction industry or in agri

Yes there the noises i'm hearing to, I think its pretty difficult to progress it from this end for sure. I bumped into a few guys last year in China and they were saying the money is obscene as they had just done a year in them as labourers...

So i'm guessing until you have some secure kinda job you wouldn't even be granted the 2nd year visa anyway? Are you hoping to do that for 2yrs then rely upon sponsorship from an employer?

I take it your trying the construction or agri industry to get started no?
