Well in order to get the 2nd year visa you have to do 3 months in a specific industry (agri, construction or in a regional area) once you have done that you can apply for the second year visa.
I was looking at either harvesting in a farm in a place called toowoomba just outside brisbane or getting a construction job. Not 100% sure what I will do yet but i'll probably do construction for about 3 months just to get started. After that the hope is to get sponsorship from an employer.
I know you said you a fireman and you'd like a change of course but have you looked into emergency service jobs in australia? I know they are looking for a lot of trades people and nurses, doctors etc so you could get a permanent visa that way if you wanted.
I basically have the same plan as ray in terms of getting the 2nd year visa so I have more time to look for a full time job and hopefully get sponsored.
ahh, thanks for that advice its been really helpful..
Yes my plan is a little different to you guys as i'm still in the fire service, i'm just lucky to get a 5 week break to head out there an suss the place out. I'm hearing as much positive as i am negative tbh. Its just a big risk for me in the fact i have a pretty cushy secure job here so i'd be looking for something pretty good/concrete if i could get it.. Dilemma huh!
Unfortunately as a fireman you cant get straight in on the points system, harsh right?! but you can as a police officer..!! allegedly its to do with the uptake on interest that they don't require immigration applicants.
No worries glad to help. I'm only 24 and out of college a year and I cant get a job in the here in the industry I specialise in so hence the reason for heading out to Oz. I'd say being in your position is a real headrecker judging from what you've said.
Bit of a pain the arse that you couldn't get a job as a fireman over there....there's always the police though!! ha
I've been to OZ twice before and personally I think the Gold Coast/Brisbane is the best place to live and work. Nothing quite like it. The whole east coast in general is a great place and there are plenty of jobs on offer and plenty of sun. Thats enough to get me out there anyway!!
Ya sure I am pretty much up for anything anyway, can't wait to go surfing. Did not realise you did the logistic was that in DCU. It is very tough to get anything in that whatever about in construction but this is the link for the cons card:
You will probably end up working in mining as logistics are a big part of their profit margins Anyways sounds good see ya when you get out or if your about limerick.
Studied it in DIT Bolton street. Cheers for the link and ill get in touch with ye a few days after I've arrived ( get over the jetlag and all that)
