I will be going to Kuala Lumpur the end of November for about 3 weeks. I was looking into getting my PADI open water cert…which I hear only takes 3-4 days. A couple of questions: can you still dive that time of year? I have researched quite a bit and it sounds like the other island of Malaysia or somewhere in Thailand would be my best bet. Any suggestions on which area I should look into?
It seems there are hundreds of different places to choose from. I have also noticed several resorts that have everything included (lodging, dive, etc). Any comments on these? Another option is to try and get my open water in the states before I head out and get my advanced when in SE Asia. I know absolutely nothing about what makes for a good dive and what to look for.
I will be by myself doing the course, so obviously price is a concern, but then so is the quality and safety. Recommendations on companies to use, places to stay, etc would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Koh Tao (Thailand). Pretty cheap, 4 day course should cost you a bit over 9k baht. Some places will include accom in this, beach hut/bungalo usually. If it doesnt include accom, try to organise some before you arrive....as it can sometimes be hard to find once you get there, the cheap places anyway.
prices vary according to places..

i think you can get a better quotation or negotiation directly... if someone respond to your topic.
if u want somewhere nearby KL, i could ask my fren where she did hers.. she had hers quite nearby to KL.
If pulau perhentian, i can get my cousin to help you. he is in the tour guide business.
anyway, good luck!!
Best deal I found was in Malaysia, by far. We set it up with Peggy over at Borneo Anchor Tours and Travel (attached to Sabah Divers) in Kota Kinabalu - much cheaper than anywhere we saw in Thailand or mainland Malaysia - plus you get to dive in Langawei ro Sipidan which is as good as it gets.
Hi: Get a cheap Air Asia flight to Makassar/Sulawesi and take the bus (or book a connection flight) to Palu. We are here on a diving holiday and this is the clearest water we have ever seen. They do PADI courses here in the Prince John Dive Centre: very professional and safe. Under German management. Have a look at -snip- Our dive holiday and find all the necessary details. - Have fun u/w, Konni & Matt.
