My boyfriend and I are travelling the East Coast of Australia this Christmas we are wondering which is cheaper...to hire a camper van for our stint from Cairns to Briabane or to hire a car and stay in hostels? Also any companies or stop offs that you would recommend would be greatly appreciated!!!
Are you aware that you're planning to be be there during the wet season (meaning unpleasant humidity and torrential rains, which for example last year caused big floods around Brisbane)? Generally speaking people try to be south of Brisbane from December through March.
I suspect that because of that, prices for accommodation and car/campervan rental will all be low; don't think the two options will differ significantly in costs.
Myslelf and my boyfriend also looked into doing this but the time it takes to drive the east coast is crazy, we didnt want to spend our whole holiday on the road! were flying between cities-the flights are pretty cheap compared to short haul in the uk.
Thanks for the info guys! We are taking about a month so we are prepared to spend about 10 days driving from Cairns to Brisbane. Here's hoping that the rainy season wont be as severe as last year!
