We haven't traveled far afield this year. :(

Being 'regular working stiffs', our time is a bit limited. We took the City of New Orleans (Amtrak) train from Chicago to - you guessed it - New Orleans for a few days. We then flew to Florida to visit friends in Dunnellon and Fort Myers.

Sometimes it's not the destination that is the most interesting part of a trip but rather the people who share the experience with you. (Beerman had one of those milestone birthdays so we were celebrating with people who actually like him. Okay, he's very likable and so we chose our closest friends to be part of the, albeit small but just as fun, adventure.)

I've been to Tagaytay in Philippines and it's such a great place. People there were really warm and honest. They would really give you the best money-saving tips like where to have the best meal at a cheap price.

I have done a decent trip this year (nearly five months), especially around the Middle East trying to avoid revolutions. We were reasonably successful but we did leave Syria a day early in March due to it starting to kick off.
I also visited various bits of Europe I had not been to in the past, namely Croatia, Krakow, Dresden, a cruise along the Rhine, all on my way to visit friends and family in the UK.

This thread started me thinking about all the travel we (wife and I) have done this year. Sometimes it was little short trips, others were multi-week commitments to the road. Using my picture file as a reference this is what the past ten months looked like and what is scheduled for the next two.
January: The Valley of the Sun (metro Phoenix) Arizona 3.5 weeks
February: Austin, TX 3 days
March: Snowmass Village, CO (North American Police Ski Championships) 6 days
April: Denver, CO (opening day for the Colorado Rockies), Boulder, CO grandkids
May: Santa Fe, NM, Ojo Caliente, NM (Resort, Spa, and Reunion) 6 days
June: Las Vegas, NV
July: Las Vegas, NV (carried over from June), Boulder, CO (HS reunion)
August: Adel, IA (HS & family reunion) 5 days
September: Boulder, CO, Estes Park, CO (Highland Games), Palisades, CO (Colorado Winefest), Columbus, Ohio (memory lane), Seymour, IN
October: Woodland Park, CO (Photo exhibit), Boulder, CO
November: Salt Lake City, UT (family & football) Thanksgiving weekend
December: Denver, CO ( reunion with old colleagues) Long weekend

So far, this has been a fun year! Can't wait to see what 2012 will bring.

I just got back (Oregon) from Istanbul (Turkey), Tbilisi (Georgia) and New York City. Istanbul was booming and spectacular, Tbilisi was much quieter and a little old fashioned and friendly (sort of like going back to the '60s or '70s). The food was wonderful in both places, but I think I could easily live in Tbilisi.

London and Israel. Breathtaking, considering I haven't been in London before. Definitely going there again!
