I'm a 24 year old female, planning a trip to India from April-May 2012. I'm only just beginning my research and plans at the moment, but thought I'd post on here and see if anyone else is planning a trip there during these months. I'm quite nervous being a young female traveler on my own in India so would love some company or advise!
I enjoy beautiful beaches, different sites and meeting different people. I'm really easy going and fancy doing a tour of India, possibliby by train, i definatley want to do the beaches such as Goa and Kerala and big cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi.
After India I am open minded but would love to continue my travels throughout Asia and maybe America/New Zealand.
if anyone is looking for a travel buddy or is planning on being in India during this time then let me know!
When booking a train ticket, you'll often see women just walking to the front of the queue. It seems to be the accepted thing.
Do be careful of the Indian sunshine on the beaches. You can get badly burned if not careful.
I live in india & very much in chennai. ( the place for marina beach). Kerala / Goa is a great choice if u are looking for a calm & rejunvating place.
However i would strongly advise you to plan after May. Summer will be very hot in all (delhi / kerala/ mumbai / chennai / goa) these locations which you are planning for.
i have plans to travel to indonesia (bali), if you have any plans ...pls let me know.
Stay in touch & u will enjoy INCREDIBLE INDIA
Regarding train in India, you can visit official Indian railway site irctc, but you have to book before 90 days in advance. Its easy to book in advance, since only if you are booking for weekend its difficult to get tickets, otherwise its very easy to get tickets.
If you want privacy, then better you can choose 1st class, 2 tier or 3 tier classes for accomodation. If you want budget or cheap accomodation, then you can choose Sleeper Class.
Hi I am livinginIran -esfahan. One of most beautiful cities in the world.
if you intend to pass through iranyou an think of me to accompany you.
I'm planning to go to India lasts days of April 2012... have u decided to go there or have u changed ur mind?
I wouldn't recommend India during April - June. Its the peak of the summer season. June is the beginning of monsoon season and you will not be able to enjoy.
I suggest you travel fro Feb - April. Goa and Kerala would have a nice pleasant climate and so would the rest of the metro cities.
Trust me, you do not want to go to Mumbai or Chennai in May! The temperature crosses 45 degree C.

It will be best if you complete your India tour by April. In Delhi, I would recommend that you visit the Red Fort, Qutab Minar and India Gate. You should also visit the famous Tajmahal. I would also suggest that you should visit some hill stations like Shimla, Darjeeling and Nainital.
To book tickets for flights and trains, you should check -snip-It is a very good site that most of the Indian use to book their tickets.
[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]
I won't recommend north India during April-May unless you are planning to go to Himalayas.
It'll be very hot there. Beaches of Goa & Kerala will be fine.
In any case you plan to come to Mumbai, don't hesitate in contacting me... we can meet over a cup of coffee.
Being a solo female traveller myself, I advise you to be more alert during your travel.
As mentioned by someone else, you can book your train tickets 90 days in advance. You need to chart out your plan.
