Work Visa for UK

Travel Forums Europe Work Visa for UK

Hello everyone, my name is Matthew.

I'm very new to forums so sorry if my threads or posts are not as fluid and clear cut as some others.

However I'm looking for information on how to obtain a work visa for the UK so that i could get a job in Scotland. Guess this is short and sweet, for the lack of information i have on such things. Anything helps. Experiences with such actions... I suppose. A number or some sort of contact information for a place that i could contact to get more direct information would be golden as well. I'm rambling at this point though, so give me information about UK work Visas if you can.

Thanks a ton for the help that you all can provide.

(Put this in General Talk... Didn't really no where to place it otherwise, redirection is welcome.)

What do you mean by a UK work visa? Are you referring to the Youth Mobility Scheme? (previously known as a working holiday visa).

What is your nationality?

I assume that the work visa is along the same lines as the holiday working visa except for a longer term. It is kind of what Aileen said... Great help by the way thanks.

I'd still like to know the criteria for a work visa on all tiers... well not all but I don't know what tier I would fall under. I can probably negate the tiers that take higher requirements as I am young. Would just like one that permits me to working at a fast food joint or something along those lines.

As to exactly what a work visa is... Well it would let me work in the UK, or Scotland more specifically even though I'm a citizen of the US. For however long I'm not sure and for how much I am unaware as well.

Not sure what all my nationalities are but I'll try to get back on that one as soon as I can.

Thanks again to mojorob, and AileenFlannigan.

Looks like the other post you refer to has been deleted by another moderator or admin - there was spam in it for sure, and it seemed a copy & paste reply.

Take a look at www.ukvisas.gov.uk and www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk - these are the websites for UK visas (the first one being aimed at those currently outside the UK, and the second aimed more to those inside the UK but carries more information).

I would doubt that you would be able to obtain a visa that would allow you to work in a job like you suggest. Being a US citizen you are also not eligible for the youth mobility scheme. I think this leaves 2 options - firstly study at or above degree level, the student visa for which may allow you to work up to 20 hours a week during term time (full time during vacations). Secondly, Bunac's Intern in Britain program - however for this you need to either be a degree level student now, or recently graduated.

In that case, your nationality is US. Do you have citizenship to any other country?
