Lauren,
I cannot help with free volunteering in Thailand, but I do have friends in Phnom Penh that can alway use another pair of hands, no fees. Send me a PM if you want more info on free volunteering in Cambodia. Mike

Hi there! Are you interested in volunteering in animal care (i.e. elephant)?

I would suggest Phuket Thailand for a first trip. It's in the tourist area and there are also many choices on things to do and many of the tour vendors operate out of the hotels and you can pick and choose what you want.

I have been Phuket once and that was last time too, cannot recommend phuket for any one.. You can find tour operators and services from any other place in Thailand too.

Hey Lauren,

I went travelling around Thailand and Vietnam in the summer and had the most amazing time. Thailand is such a great place with so many different places to visit all with something completely different to offer.
If you're going to be travelling around for 6 months then I would advise you to see and do as much as possible. My trip was amazing but just not long enough! :(

As for the volunteering side of things, you should try looking up some charities which base their work over there to start and see if there's anything you like. A lot of it will depend on what type of work you want to do.

Best of luck and feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about Thailand!

I Saw Some Beautiful views about Thailand ... Thanks to you guys that you like my country.

Dear Lauren :
1.What About Start 2-3 Days In Bangkok : sight seeing in the capital and provinces near by like Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi.

2.Then go up north to Chiang Mai and up to Chiang Rai at the district named Chiang Khong you can do slow boat to cross to Lao ( Luang Prabang ) via Mae Kong River and enjoy staying in Lao ... Luang Prabang + Vang Vieng ( enjoy tubing and river bars ) + Vientien

3. Visit Vietnam and Cambodia then back to Bangkok again ... get some rest

4. Travel South to Phuket + Krabi / Phi Phi then cross to Surat Thani to visit Koh Samui

5. Visit Koh Phangan : make sure you will visit here in Full Moon Party and pre book everything in advance and after Full Moon ...chill for 2 days then head to Koh Tao you can do this trip in vice versa like :

Koh Tao - Koh Phangan - Koh Samui - Surat Thani - Krabi - Phi Phi - Phuket and u can fly to Malaysia / Indonesia & Bali / S'pore even Australia & New Zealand

If it's 6 months, you shouldn't miss Phuket. Just so you can say, you've seen it and be either one of those who love it and those that didn't.

I wished I went to the Phi Phi islands, Krabi and Koh Tao.
