I agree this is a great time to do some traveling and I'm not surprised that has been the overwhelming response from this forum -- it is a travel forum after all. But if you are concerned about being away from the corporate ladder too long do a three or four month trip instead of six.
as I said earlier, I have done something similar, I am 31, left my job and I have moved to Cambodia 2 weeks ago. I will be staying here for 2 months and work as a volunteer, after I will be travelling 3 weeks. I had concerns with regard to my career, so I found a voluntary work in my own profession (accounting). This way I gain new experience and travel a bit in the neighbour countries. So it is a bit of a compromise. It depends on what you like, I think I would not be able just travel for months even if I love travelling, I am very active and I have to do something. Maybe you could start with Cambodia, people hera are amazing, they really appreciate tourists/foreigners so it brings a smile on you even if you're sad..., also seeing them smiling and laughing in difficult times makes me think how much more we 'westerners' have I still complain..., so definitely, a great experience which I will never regret
