im planning a trip to south east asia in the new year around the end of january. im not sure on where the best places to go are. obviously there is thailand with bangkok and phuket but where else is there to go in places like cambodia and laos.
i would be looking for a travelling partner aswell as it is my first time and i dont particularly want to feel isolated so far from home.
im 20 years old so obviously looking for a travelling partner roughly the same age.
if any of you guys can help me out that would be wicked......
I assume BKK is your arrival city. If you head for KSR like most young people, you will find someone to travel with. There are just hundreds of backpackers your age bumping around SEA. If you are flexible at all with your plans, someone will be heading where you are.
I suggest you hit the Krabi area when you head for Phuket. I think you will find Phuket too expensive and too busy. I would hit Phi Phi, Railay, Lanta instead of spending time in Phuket.
Good luck with your planning.

spot on for that mate i appreciate it
I have been to Bangkok and Phuket myself. They are really cool places and really affordable. The people are generally nice. Was stuck in a riot in Bangkok a few years ago when they were electing for the minister. Quite an experience though.
As for Phuket, you MUST go to phiphi island. about an hour of speedboat ride from phuket. It's gorgeous. Please do not go with tours, do it free and easy. No point travelling for an hour and then you only get to spend 20minutes on the island. I suggest you leave early morning and about 4pm get back to Phuket. You wont regret it. I did snorkeling too. Crystal clear water, huge mysterious caves. Really cool.
i am even planning for the same....during the last part of jan..Do let me know your places of interest ....i have plans to visit bali aswell..
