Hey all, how's it going?

I'm going to Europe for the 2nd time this summer and I have a few questions.

I'm going to 6 countries in all: Starting things off in Munich > Florence > Rome > [Possibly Sorrento] > Milan > Geneva > Barcelona > Madrid > Paris > Amsterdam

So here are some questions:

Any suggestions for accomodation in (hostels):

1. Florence, Italy
2. Milan, Italy
3. Geneva, Switzerland
4. Paris, France
5. Munich, Germany

Also, any suggestions on what to do in:

1. Madrid
2. Barcelona
[Should I go to Granada? Where are the most popular beaches in Spain?]
3. Geneva
4. Munich

Oh, and one more thing. Did the airfares go up this year? Last year I paid roughly $650US from Atlanta, USA to London; connecting in NY. But this year prices seem to have jump to $1000US +

Thanks in advance. ;)

As far as Geneva goes, you may want to consider skipping it, and stopping off in another town. Are you taking the train? You could consider spending an extra day in paris, there is tons to do there. If you have to stay in geneva though, there is a nice hostel by the train station i think. don't get me wrong, geneva is a great city, but it's really geared towards an older (older than 19) and wealthier crowd (the kind who can afford the 5 star hotels along the lake)....

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm actually going to cross off Switzerland and spend an extra day or two in the other countries I plan on going to. I'll head over to Switzerland in the future. Thanks again. ;)

I think it would be a shame to skip Switzerland. I went in Late May two years ago and I thought it was breathtaking. Interlaken was home base and there were some good Hostels there too. My favoriate site was Trümmelbach Water Falls. plus there are tons of other fun thing to do in the city. http://www.interlakentourism.ch/

Happy Travels!

Milan:

Ostello Piero Rotta on Viale Salmoiraghi 1. (=About €15 a night) There is a curfew though...

La Cordata, Via Burigozzo 11....central location. Also about €15

Florence:

Ostello Villa Camerata, Viale Righi €13 per night....very clean...again a curfew!

Many cheap hotels in Italy are a better option than hostels...so if you need more info let me know. I can help.

Hostels:

Paris: BVJ Paris Louvre. In the heart of Paris and prices are vey reasonable for the area. Website: http://www.bvjhotel.com/pages/louvre.htm

Munich: There is one very well known Hostel....The Euro Youth Hostel. Tons of friendly people . It is usually pretty packed though...but all around the train station are tons of hotels and hostels. It shouldn't take you long to find something if that is booked. Contact info: 599 088 11 (phone)

Florence: It's easier to find a cheap hotel than a hostel bed there (from experience anyways). There are lots of accomodations around the train station.

What to do in.....

Munich: You must go to a Beer Garden! These are pubs with trees and wonderful little outside areas. Plus they have beer glasses that are one litre. (Note: don't drink a Litre of beer before going on an overnight train ride )

Barcelona: Buy a ticket to one of those hop-on-hop-off bus circuits (like "Barcelona Bus Turistic"). That's what we did and we saw everything in a day (albeit rushed). All the bars are located off Las Ramblas, and there are fresh fruit markets for food and a flea market for shopping. At night check out the foutain show at the Placa d'Espanga. Lights, water and music.....it's great!

Cheers,
Katie ;)
