Need more info from you - price, like/dislikes, etc.

If you want the best at a reasonable price, my suggestions follow:

HCMC - Bich Duyen Hotel
Hoi An - Nhi Trung Hotel
Hanoi - Hanoi Art Hotel

ive just got back from there was my favourite place in se asia

in hanoi i stayed at hanoi backpackers, 125,000 dong per night great atmosphere has its own little roof bars for meeting new people

hoian we stayed at sunflower hotel seems as though most people stay there or green fields although we heard some bad things about there so opted for sunflow awesome place and you get free flip flops this was 189,000 per night although if your by yourself it might cost more,

Quoting Tracy.Lee

Any suggestion for accommodation in Hanoi, Hoian, Ho Chi Minh city? I have 3 weeks to explore this country.

I'm from Vietnam, so I hope some information about Vietnam is useful for you. In my opinion, 3 weeks are quite enough to explore the most impressive destinations in Vietnam, from the North to the South of Vietnam.

Some destinations in the North: halong bay, hoa lu - tam coc - bich dong( is considered as halong bay in land), cuc phuong national park, perfume pagoda, sapa (the highland area of Vietnam where you can see the life of ethnic people).......
Some destinations in the Center: Hue (the old citadal of Vietnam), Danang (with beautiful beaches), Hoian (the ancient city)...
Some destinations in the South: Hochiminh city ( is also called Saigon), Mekong delta, Cu chi tunnel......

In our country, you also can book the hotel with different price and different quality also.
If you need more information or any help, please do not hesitate to contact me in yahoo address: -snip-

Let's spend some more money as this is your vacation!! I would do so whenever I am traveling thanks to my good preparation in advance.
I would say:
Hanoi: Elegance Diamond Hotel
Hoi An: Boutique Hoi An Resort
Ho Chi Minh City: Catina Hotel
Book through local travel agency to to get better price!

Thanks guys about your suggestion. I found Elegance Diamond Hotel is quite high rate. I am looking for budget prices # $30-$40US/night. I am looking for Halong bay trip but considering 2 or 3 day trip?
Backpacker place too noise for me, i love a fancy, boutique place.

Make use of the 'accommodation' option, top of this page. Highest rated hotels/hostels listed first. Read the reviews, then type the hotel name into 'tripadvisor'. Read all the reviews on that website. Now you will have an idea of what to expect. This is one example for HaNoi. Another one. Do that for each city you plan on visiting. You might book for first hotel for HAN. Oct. is certainly not high season and you will have no trouble finding a place to stay in your price range. I would make a list of 2-3 place you prefer to stay in HAN. All should be in the Old Quarter IMO. Great location, many attractions are an easy walk away. Have your taxi or the shuttle take you to your first choice. If that is not acceptable, walk or taxi over to your second choice. Or book it online and have the hotel pick you up at Noi Bai.

Now HaLong Bay tours. DO NOT book anything until you get to HAN. Much better prices once you are standing in front of a travel agent. I would get 3 prices for: 1,2,3 day tours. Make sure Sinh Cafe is one of them. Have all quotes written down on their address card. Your hotel will also book tours. Once you have your quotes, you will know if your hotel is being fair or trying to overcharge you. Knowing prices for everything is the key to VN. Many will try to overcharge you if you do not know how to bargain or know the 'correct' price. Decide once in HAN if you want to spend 2, 3 days on HB. Read a few blogs here to see what others experienced on their tours of HB. It can feel like a cattle drive when you arrive at the boats.

I have been to VN 5 times, send me a PM if you have additional questions. Mike

Hello Tracy.
I agree with you Mike.
At first you can find some hotels on google then check review on tripadvisor or some hotel reservation website such as,
You can email hotel directly to get special offer, sometimes they can give you better price than they quote on all website. You can negotiate it.
For Halong Bay trip, 1 day trip is too short and rush for you, You will feel very tired. Because you have to spend 7 hours on car both ways from Hanoi to halong and return, just some hours cruising on boat around Halong. It is not enough chance to see beauty of Halong.
So you can go to Halong Bay 2 days 1 night or 3 days 2 nights, 1 night on the boat, 1 night hotel in Cat Ba Island.
Tell us your budget, we can help you.
Good luck!
