Hello there, I am in the process of planning an earley mid life crisis with the view of going to India for the winter (November to March). Never been to Asia though did a bit of travelling in another life, Kibbutz, South Africa, ting and ting. Anybody got any advice where to go / avoid. looking to relax and write the first page of my novel !!! Not too fussed really, just not staying here for another winter, end of. Would appreciate any feedback, Kind Regards. P

India is vast so it really depends what your into. At that time of year most people go to Goa. And its a great time to explore the south, but not the north west too cold!

It's a shame you are going in winter. Summer in Manali in Himachel Pradesh is awesome and a great place to hide away and write. for the time you are there I'd probably head to Goa and take a trip down to Karala. Both are easy to get around in and the people much easier to deal with. They have a long history of European "contact" and so understand what Europeans want in the way of food. I have the name of a couple of great places that I stayed in, but I'd have to search around for a while to find them. Generally the far north and the far south of Goa are the more laid back places in Goa. Go and snoop around on my India pictures on my profile.

Oh P.S I have been in both Darjeeling in December and Manali as late as November. They are perfectly doable, but cold at night. You could take a trip up to either and then head south. From Delhi there is good luxury bus service to Manali, 15hours Or from Calcutta take the train up to Darjeeling.
