I just had one other idea, I've been travel helping for Brazil for quite a while now and I've come to expect little response for the reams of typed help I give people which is fine but sometimes you don't know if you're being helpful or not,
now I would want this only in a positive way (i.e no minus marking!) but what about some kind of star system for people to award when they've had a nice bit of advice? (not suggesting I deserve one though )that would mean that helpers don't have to feel unloved and the helped have to do little to reply?
just a thought
A bit like e-bay ratings...
I respectfully second that! I'm always, always happy to help (it's kind of like re-living parts of your trip to remember so much detail), but except for the die-hards here, I rarely ever get a response. So I too don't know if I'm being helpful or not.
Like mim, I'd say it's just a matter of respectfully acknowledging the time that someone took to help. There are some great people here who'd get 5 stars in my book!
I agree also. I'm really happy to help - it's one of the reasons that this website is so successful, I think. Everyone is willing to put themselves out to help someone else realise their plans...
It would be nice to get feedback of some kind though, if only to spur you on!
Blimey, seems we still need a "stamp for work well done" like when we were in kindergarten.
If the person that you have helped hasn't sent you a message of thanks, I can't see why they're going to bother ranking your response.
It's obvious. If you have a star system the person only has to click one button or so.. but with sending a message, you have to write your own personal message. I really like this idea. I want the stars to be gold and shiny..
I still have issues about not getting any starts in kindergarten!
Do they have to be stars? What about elephant stamps? hehe
It's a good idea though. A simple 'This post was helpful' link would probably do the trick I suppose and give us yet another factor to take into account for our top secret Member Title algorithm.. muhaha
Maybe we can have planes or backpacks instead of stars.
Being serious for a moment, I would assume that they would only know if the advice given was useful once they've gone on their trip and taken that advice.
