Hi....

My name is Yenny. Next month (Oct'11) I will go to Phuket with my family. First we arrive at penang and then we will take bus to hatyai. And then from Hatyai we stay for 1 night, the next day will go to phuket. But I was very confuse bout the bus.
May I know what time available for the bus from Hatyai to Phuket? And how to book the bus?

Thanks,
Yenny

Yenny,
You have 2 choices on transport to Phuket. The travel shops will try to put you on a 12 seat minibus. Fare is around 350 THB. I suggest you do not use this option. You want a real bus leaving from the Hat Yai bus station. It is by the Diana Dept. Store. Safer and more comfortable. Take a taxi/tuk tuk over to the bus station and book it yourself. Buses leave almost every hour for Phuket, 270 THB for 2nd class a/c, 350 THB 1st class. Figure 7-8 hours. Buses start running 7am.

Unless you have pre-paid your holiday, I would get out of Phuket and spend my time on other islands off the Krabi coast. You will have a better experience than be part of the hoards infecting Phuket.

Good luck with your planning.

Yenny,
Last bus I could find for Phuket is 9:30pm. I don't think this is a good idea. You will get into Phuket around 3am. Not a great time to arrive in any city. I would take the morning bus. Any tuk-tuk driver will know 'bus station'. Always easier to have a photo of buses and a bus station with you. Hat Yai bus station is on Chot Witthayakhol Rd.

Take the Bus.Not The Minivans! It's stuffy and crampy! Locals sit in the front rows and foriegners sits behind.Take a Tuk Tuk to the Station and make enquiries.Lot's of buses.Try Krabi and you can make a day trip to Phuket. In Krabi go to the wet market for breakfast.Great local delights! If you're going for the Island tours make sure it's buffet lunch. In Hatyai I usually stay at the Lee Garden! Great Breakfast.Rate RM116/-
