I am currently in Santiago in Chile and going to make my way north in a couple of weeks time to get to Cusco for the Inca Trail. I was just wondering if anyone has done this route before and if so, where did you go, stop off on the way, did you go back to argentina and up through bolivia, fly to lima etc?? any tips or advise will be appreciated loads. Thanks!
Happy Friday everyone,
If you are in Santiago de Chile, you can take a bus to Arica, it's about 28 hours or take a fly to Arica. Once you are there you'd cross the borderline and get to Peru, in Tacna, there you can take another bus to go to Arequipa...it's aprox. 10-hour...you can stay in Arequipa - it's very very nice place...try to visit the Colca Cannon and the surroundings...well, then you can take a bus to Cusco...12-hour I think...This is one route...by bus.
Other is to take a international fly from Santiago to Lima, and then another fly from Lima to Cusco.
It depends if you have time and budget.
Have a good trip,
I did a similar trip last january, but the other way round, from Lima to Santiago. Here I give you the details:
Lima-Arequipa, 50 soles, 14 hs.
Arequipa-Tacna, 20, 5.30
Tacna-Arica, 10, 3 (by car)
Arica-Santiago, 40 dolars, 30 hs
