Hostels!? You'll be in India and can afford a room to yourself! Loads of places in Pahar Ganj, the tourist area close to New Delhi train station. Depending on your budget I can recommend a few. Don't worry about being alone. Just pop into the coffee shops and cafes in Pahar Ganj and you'll get talking with others soon enough.

Thanks TRAVEL LOVER.

I'm not really sure how much I need to spend? I am travelling on a budget so all as I am after is a nice clean, friendly hostel with good location? Can you give me some options please?

Thanks

i used to stay in anoop hotel on main bazaar (pahar-ganj) all the time, however it became very popular and refurbished so prices rocketed. in any case, you can try it for one or two nights just to have a comfortable place before you look for something else. i used to pay 300 (GBP 5) rupees, last year even with a lot of bargaining it was 500, now it could be even more 600-800.

pahar-ganj became to expensive lately. although i have never stayed there, they say the "tibetan-colony" area (manju-ka-tilla) is a good alternative as it has not picked up by the tourist hype.
