Amazon on My Mind

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Amazon on My Mind

Hello,

I am in the planning stages of a RTW and have been doing research into South America. One of the biggest things on my bucket list is The Amazon Rainforest.

Being on a backpackers budget I am looking to stay at the coolest places possible (tree top or jungle hut type dwellings) as well as take the best tours I can all while staying on budget. The rest of my budget research in the areas of interest (Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Boliva) suggests that I should be able to find something for around the $15-25 U.S. a night range, however when I am looking for specific places in the jungle I am finding "Mainstream" Yuppie Tourist sites that want MUCH more than this.

I am hoping that maybe someone on this site who has felt the same pull towards the ecological wonderland that I have and has been on the same budget restraints that I am would be able to guide me to specific websites that could help or could make some recommendations of places that they went.

Hoping that I wont have to push back my departure date,

Gary

Hi Gary...

I am also heading the Amazon with my friend and we have been looking into budget options.... We're planning on Iquitos and Leticia but when we were looking we came accross this site in Equador:

However, due to time restraints we're not going to be able to do it and now we're looking for something similar in the Iquitos/Leticia area, but not had much joy thus far...

I have joined these type of projects in central america before and the were cheap, even free on one occasion and very rewarding, also gives you a beter insight of an area and a possibility to do things that you cant book through tour operators....
When are you going??
