Hello lovely people I am flying to NZ in 10 days time after having spent 3 months in South America and I have realised that I have not too much money for my 2 months in NZ. I do not wish to spend my money on sleeping, rather want to spend it on enjoying myself. I have a tent and stove and all I need, but are there any free campsites anywhere or do you know of any wonderful people who would let me camp in their garden for a few nights??
Love Ragnhild from Norway.
Camping in the bushes etc, is strictly prohibited and to find a garden every night is gonna be a big struggle.
People r really nice here, but as I said, u wanna see the country and not look for a place (garden) to camp every night.
If u r in the area where I live, u can always sleep in our garden
gd luck Kathi
Good information and thank you very much for your garden offer!!! I might take you up on that, where abouts do you live?
I live in the Waikato, close to Hamilton.
If u wanna see Hobbiton, go to Wahi Beach etc. it's close to our little town (Morrinsville)
That´s fantastic! Sounds very nice indeed, I will contact you through this site when I get to your area. I am looking forward to escaping the big poisonous spiders here in Argentina. Love Ragnhild
Anyone else know anything about camping in national parks in NZ, what is the normal fee for one mountain tent?
I did a quick search
I don't know if these are of any help to you!? I think for most of our Regional Parks and camping grounds theres at least a NZ$5 fee?!!? But don't quote me on that im not too sure!
Most of us friendly farmers will let you camp on our farms if you ask nicely and offer a few dollars or maybe do a small job instead- There is alsp wwoofing which you can do, it is a scheme where you work for about six hours a day and get all your accomodation and food, a great way to meet new zealanders.
Thank you all people.
I have been in NZ for 2 weeks now and as yet I have not spent a doller on accommodation. I hitchike and the people I get lifts with always know of good free places to camp, either in their own garden, local beaches or I get to stay in their house. What a wonderful country!
