Yes! A full pardon from the Dutch Consul in Canada, he agreed, the penalty was beyond what is normal based on the circumstances and the agent overstepped his authority... Europe here i come!!!!!!

Congratulations! That must feel really good.

I do wish Europe would in general relax the Schengen visa rules, making it easier for travellers to stay for longer periods of time, but I guess that's all wound up in semi-nationalistic retalia^H^H^H^H^H^H^H mutual agreements. :) (Though Canada allows Europeans to visit for up to 6 months without any trouble IIRC; wish more countries were like that!)

I agree. The whole Schengen thing is a travelers worst nightmare. I can't for example go to Europe and spend a month in Spain, a month in Italy, a month in Germany and a month in France which is bullshit. More and more countries are being added every year to the whole Schengen system making it harder and harder for travelers. I would love if Europe brought back the borders or at least offer six month visas for Australians, Canadians, Americans etc.

Why The Yanks and Canadians do not offer the same facility to Europeans, it is a two way street. you give us a secure easy visa facility for visiting North America and maybe Europe, would facilitate you. until you do! Stay at home and we will do the same.

Wow, negative much?
Canada actually has extremely liberal border rules for travelling Europeans. Show up, and you're allowed to stay in the country for six months. It's only the USA which has insanely strict rules and makes it a major hassle to visit.

Me, I'd rather see the EU governments be more liberal in accepting visitors, rather than this stupid retaliatory tit-for-tat policy. (There were even plans to start fingerprinting non-Europeans when they enter. Insane!)

Curious about the reason you overstayed by the way. This might have something to do with the penalty. Do you want to share?

Exactly! I'm rolling my eyes as I scroll down this thread. I'm just surprised why this can still be appealed.

I didn't know Europeans can have trouble entering the US. Often times I wish the Asean will close it's doors to any nation, who does not let travel without the epic requirements. Flights to Paris are so cheap, I can definitely afford it... But I have yet to know, what the requirements are. If that includes a letter from a French citizen inviting me over, then Paris has to wait for another 3 years.

and it would be nice to have stamps on our passports... I heard they don't stamp if you cross borders.

Considering that for Russians each visa costs at least £50, it would be a pain if the borders were brought back in Europe. At least now we can get a month long visa and go to a couple of countries.

As for overstaying, I'm surprised it was only 5 years, I heard people get a life ban.
