Planning on travelling from Mexico - Rio overland for a year in 2012, taking in all the usual stops en route! (whatever they are!)
I really want my mum to come and visit, however the furthest she's travelled is France, she's not keen on anything that's going to be really out of her comfort zone. She's filled her head with horror stories about Mexico, Columbia, and anywhere else with a dubious travel history.
I was thinking of Peru, but another friend advised me that Peru, Chil etc are quite high altitude, and she'd need a few weeks there to aclimatise to the air. (She will probably come for 10 days - 2 weeks).
Can anyone recommend a country, and even better, a mini itinery for someone like her :o)
Thanks in advance!
Costa Rica perhaps? Very easy to travel around. Otherwise I'd recommend Buenos Aires if you are making it there?
I've pencilled in Buenos Aires for some festival madness, not sure she will appreciate that. Plus I'll be there at the end of my trip and would rather she visited in the middle
Costa Rica could be a good idea. I'll look into it, thanks!
Im in Costa Rica right now and it is very small so it's easy to get around and have everything to offer in terms of animals, nature and landscapes in totally different styles. All from hot beaches and cosy towns to higher altitudes with Monteverde and it's cloud forests. Very good country but do not spend time in San José. I would recommend go to Arenal Volcano and the areas around and then Montezuma and the pacific coast
What about Rio for the carnival.
I think the first question is, "where is Mom flying from?"
If she's a poor traveller then start by choosing a destination that's a direct (and preferably non-stop) flight.
