Skype question and the computer

Travel Forums Travel Gear Skype question and the computer

Does having SKYPE installed in a certain way slows down the computer, like the downloading and uploading process?

Everytime, I turn on the computer the Skype page appears... Another traveller used this computer, he has left weeks ago.... But his skype account still seem active... The other day, I see 3 missed calls. I had a local technician fixed my recent computer problem, password related.
He doesn't know what is skype.

But regarding the SPEED issue, he just said, that all internet access in the area is SLOW. But I met another traveler last week, and she told me that her connection was good, it was fast.

I planning to ask someone to remove skype in my computer, but I might need to make calls for the holidays... I am fine with yahoo or facebook chat...

If you have skype, you can call people with their landline number and they don't have to pay anything, right?

I have known skype to slow the internet down; my friend ended up uninstalling skype for this reason and hasn't used it since. Are you able to remove it and see if this helps? It's easy enough to download if you need to reinstall.

That's correct: the person you are calling will not have to pay anything but you will need skype credit unless you are calling PC to PC.

Regarding the issue with the previous user's account still being active, you should just be able to sign out of that account and then you can sign in as yourself.

I have a landline, and my friends have skype. I'm thinking, I'll just give them my number and I can do away with skype from my computer(?) Wait, calling PC to PC, if I have no credit, someone can still call me through skype. I know it's cheap, but not for free... My friends used it, but I never pay attention, when they were preaching me this stuff.

Thanks, I will try to have this uninstalled... Got lots of stuff to be uploading.

I deleted the skype icon from the desktop...

and click on this thing that asked me if I don't want to see skype for an eternity, everytime, I open my computer. But like most things in the internet, they have a way of not ever leaving our computer... Like when you try to UNSUBSCRIBE to something, it has to be as complicated as a Chinese remote control for a TV, with thousands of useless bottoms, that makes it a nuclear science just to turn down the volume. I just hate it, how intrusive some sites can be. Like those facebook updates filling your mailbox and they never even asked you if you are an idiot, who needs to be told everyweek that your friend, uploaded a new photo of her dog.

Internet speed is 100.0 Mbps, how bad is that for a brand new computer? The technician said it's the connection for the entire city. I am not in Siberia, so it must be the Skype.

I think it's not going to affect the speed of your computer. But if you don't use Skype, then you could just probably uninstall it if it bothers you that much.

Someone finally got rid of it... I don't know if it's psychological, but it does seem faster.
