Haha, major headache all day yesterday, but Saturday is the night to drink the hangover away! We shouldnt be spending our money on alcohol, were going to Australia! haha x

OMG, i know but its so easy! Cheap drinks = more money spent. Its meant to make you spend less but you never do haha. Besides, it was my last weekend out before i go! Surely i'm excused? ;)

I've also had Arctic Monkeys and the Vaccines tuuuunes ringing through my ears all weekend to accompany the headaches - not a bad thing by any means haha x

Didn't realise the LG was 10 miles away from the city centre though, that presented a few problems! Bit of a mental weekend, but had a class time. Arctic Monkeys are amaaaaazing btw ;)

Thankyou, and i will do! Don't be crapping it, i'm sure you'll have an amazing time :) be alreyt x

Hey Grace,

It's a brave decision deciding to go solo, but i'm sure it will be well worth it and you'll meet people in no time! Did you always plan on going solo? I'm planning on doing the same sort of thing as you but the opposite away around... leaving around may 2012 to do S.E Asia for about 6-7 months then flying to Oz on a working visa to work my way around the east coast.

I was always planning on going with my friend though, but due to what he's been offered at work he's had to pull out. So now i guess i'm stuck to go on my own. I'm sort of bricking it a bit that i will get out there, everyone will be in groups already and i'll wana fly home. I'm sure that won't be the case for us both though.

Let me know how you get on, And i'm sure we can swap stories/advice about each place to eachother :)

Hey Dom,

Yeah my friends are either at Uni or got work commitments that they wanna keep so i've just thought i may aswel go for it! I feel the same about the group thing, but i've got a couple of friends over there at the moment and they've said how laid back people are and that its totally different, and everyone wants to meet other people and i'm hoping its that way cause thats kind of the experience isn't it ?

I'm planning on going to Oz first, because i'm saving £3500, then i want to be working aswel as travelling in Oz and top up my money to then go to South East Asia and plus, im hoping to meet people in Oz that also want to go to SE Asia, because i think a young girl moving from Thailand etc.. could be pretty dangerous on my own!

Have you booked anything yet etc..?

Yes definately will let you know, hopefully itll all be good news ha ha !
I'll be bricking it too, dont worry but only live once!

Grace x

i completely agree with you, and in that sort of sense it makes me look forward to going on my own even more as i'll be so much more open to meeting new people and travelling around with them.

Yea i suppose that makes sense, at least the culture shock and language barrier won't be there and australia will be safer. I was originally planning on starting in India and doing China as well. But i think on my own, India might be a bit too much of a shock. Although i still want to do china but hopefully i might meet people on the way who i could travel around with.

In terms of planning anything, I havn't yet though. I prob won't even book anything till about 3 months before tbh. But i've done some ready around and got some guidebooks and stuff. But atm thats as far as its gone. What about yourself? any visa's and flights booked?

It's funny because everyone at home thinks i would be crazy to go on my own, but it's reassuring coming on sites like this seeing there is so many people do it.

India looks unreal, and its supposed to be well cheap, but you have to invest in sleeping pills when on the trains haha!

Yeah ive got my visa, and i fly to Sydney on 16th of May and i get there on the 17th.. Even though im on my own i feel kind of lucky as a woman i work with, her son runs a restaurant in Bondi in Sydney and my friends parents friends (if that makes sense) run a recruitment agency in Sydney also.. So im hoping ill be okay for work there! Though when i get to Sydney im not planning on staying there long and heading up to Cairns and hopefully be back in Sydney for Christmas and New Year!

Yeah i dont really mind if its a 'culture shock', i kind of like that aspect of SE Asia, i just want to meet more people before i throw myself into that after Oz, because Thailand i know ill end up getting robbed on the train when im asleep or something, and end up having no shoes haha !

And going back to us being alone thing, everyone ive spoken to has said its the best way, but i will still have that fear that noone will want to be my friend! lol

Get saving and get booking! Then its set in stone and your going on it alone! ahhh

Hi Grace!

I'm planning on heading out to Australia in March 2012. I think I'm gonna be starting out in Sydney as well and playing it by ear, although I'm mainly interested in checking out amazing beaches on the East coast of Queensland :). I have the same fear as you though, which I think goes to show that probably everyone is a little nervous! I was trying to decide whether or not to enroll in a work abroad program like ultimateOZ. Are you doing anything like that or just booking a hostel and going for it?
