I'm landing in melbourne on the 5th march on my own, would be good to meet people doing the same, its not that hard to get work and if u wana travel on a budget check out woof.com.au or helpex people let u stay with them and u get food in exchange for a few jobs mostly gardening or painting ect, also if u get up early and wait out side ur hostel a few workers will often pop past in need of a hand, mostly handy.
my plan is to stay around melbourne area till easter, then head down to bells beach in torque to watch the asp pro tour which is one of the biggest surf comps in the world, if ur into surfing. then work my way up the east coast through the year.
if anybody is doin the same or similar add me on fb (Joe Jeffs) its nice to know ur not the only one goin alone.
I'm landing in Melbourne on the 14th Febraury and my plans pretty much similar. I want to try and find work as soon as I can, I dont have that much money with me to start with. Have you decided where abouts you will looking at staying in Melbourne? I like the sounds of St Kilda but not sure whether its easy enough to find a job or not there.
I'm looking at working till the end of April and hopefully I'd have enough money saved up by then to travel up the east coast!. Hopefully it will be easy to meet people whilst I'm there =]
I'm another lone traveller, flight's already booked for 11th June from Birmingham. Am starting to get pretty scared already!!!
Am not thinking of planning anything before getting out there, but will be good to know of people that will be in Sydney in June.
Any opinion on the following would be verrry helpful; get a job first, save more then travel OR travel around, then look for a job.
Arrgh just don't know!
Hey, im also from birmingham! I land on 17th of May, but i should possibly still be in sydney around that time! x
Seems like I have similar plans to a lot of people... heading to Sydney at the end of june with a friend. Not sure how long we'll end up staying, my guess is somewhere between 5-9 months and possibly go to south east asia on our way home. Planning on spending a week or so in Sydney when we first arrive in Oz and then going along with whatever happens. Definitely going to need to work out there so I've booked my visa and everything.
I was just wondering how much money people are planning on taking with them (roughly). I literally have no idea how much im going to need and how much i'll be able to earn when im over there or how much it costs to live so any help or advice on the money side of things would be really appreciated!
I'm aiming for saving up $5000 AUD, which is the amount required for people applying for year long visas. My situation's a little different than yours, but if you plan on working I'm sure 3/4 of that amount should be enough. I hear that Sydney's pretty pricey, so I'm not sure how long I'll be staying there either. If I were you, I'd just check out hostels/apts or whatever you're living situation will be and just try and come up with a rough estimate. It really is going to vary and depend on what you plan on doing during your stay. Obviously the more you travel, the more you'll want to save up.
I've just been looking at job websites, seeing about how much the average wage is for jobs that I'm qualified for and then checking out cost of hostels in certain areas.
Hope that helps!
Hey guys, im also heading off to oz in the mid of april - alone! I didnt fear about that one year trip for a long time, but now ... puhhhh xD Yet Ive got no plans at all, where to go - but north. Id love to travel to the west cost, but id be also fine with the east. So .. i guess ill just go with the flow as you do. Im also thinking about buying a car well, imma join your fb group to get in contact with you guys!
I"m 28 m from Canada looking for likeminded travellers. I'm arriving march 4th to sydney but am open to moving around with any one as i'm travelling alone.
I could always use some people to party with.
Let me know what the plan is as i'm looking to go all over Oz.
Thought I'd add to this, I'm leaving for Melbourne on my own on the 2nd May. I have no plans at the moment so I'm very much winging it. I'm hoping to work in Melbourne for a bit before moving around. I've done the east coast before so would like to do western Oz and the northern territory, as well as the east coast again because it's a LOT of fun!
If anyone's going to be there around the same time just let me know!
