I am looking at arriving in Rio for the carnival, only just looking into it as this was a late decision!!
Anyone have any recommendations for accomadation that will still have rooms available?
I'm currently debating to buy a ticket for carnival or whether just being in and around the streets of Rio during this time will be fullfulling enough without the added expense? Your thoughts?????
Also, I will be travelling alone so if there is anyone who will be out there who would like to hook up then let me know!!
I will also be traveling alone to Carnival this year. I've also noticed this post is somewhat old, so if you are still interested in meeting up with someone I would be more than happy to meet up with you during the festivities and enjoy the Carnival together. I'm 20, a little younger, but I'd feel better if I had someone to travel with.
Let me know,
I am SO GLAD you guy are going/ thinking about going to Brazil for carnival. I am Brazilian native, residing in the US for the last 11 years. I also will be going to carnival 2012- Rio de Janeiro.
Accommodation- Because I will stay @ my parents' I do not have too much input. I did, prior to replying this post, some research on a major hostel website (I didnt provide address on this post afraid administrator would consider that advertising), and found some daily places ranging from $90- $145 USD. Good spots for accommodations will be Santa Tereza, Copacabana or anywhere in the south side.
As far as debating on buying the ticket for carnival, it is a great experience I can tell you that. Yet, Rio itself will host over 400 parades (or blocos) on the streets- enough entertainment. You can drink on the streets, and last year's beer price was 2 for R$ reais ( about $3 USD for 2 cans of beer). I am sure this year will be more.
I will be spending 10 days in Rio, and cannot wait to get there.
I understand going to a different country can be somehow intimidating. PLEASE, let me know if I can provide any input to assist you.
Best, and WELCOME to RIOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I've literally just been to Rio and it was amazing, so I bet it will be even more stunning for Carnival - I'm very jealous. When I stayed there I stayed in an apartment which I found on Hostel world called RonRioFlats. The guy that owned them couldn't have been more helpful, and the apartment was great - right between Copacabana beach and Ipanema Beach so it was close to everything! However if you were thinking of staying in a hostel the only other one I have stayed at that I can recommend is called Casa 579 which was really cool - it had a really nice vibe and some really chilled people there. It had amazing views of sugar loaf and the christ statue but was a bit far out. Apart from these I have heard that a hostel called Mellow Yellow is really really good, and I know another hostel called Hi Copa is very close to the beach, that looked pretty decent.
I hope this helps! Have a great time!
I will be in Rio for the Carnaval as well. I'll arrive this sunday evening and I'll be happy to meet some others to go to the Carnaval together.
If you guys wanne meet, let me know!
By the way: if you know a nice place to stay (hostel), please let me know since I still haven't booked anyting.
