nicky88 has indicated that this thread is about USA

Hey,

I am planning a trip to USA in september 2012 until December. I am currently travelling Australia and will be fliying to USA on 31st August but havent decided where to fly to yet as when i first get there i will have to buy/rent a car which ever is better financially. i am also looking into camping as apposed to hotels as will be cheaper to maybe just buy a tent/ camping stuff ect.

Any advise on where to get a car and what it will cost to insure ect and also about routes togo will be muchly appreciated and if anyone else has similar plans will be great to get in touch.

Thanks
Nicky

RV! You can get some pretty inexpensive older model motorhomes, and many have low miles on them. If you get a smaller van style, you can get around anywhere, stay in campgrounds or truck stops, or even a hotel if it strikes your fancy. Gives you a lot more freedom so you don't have to worry about making it to a certain reservation on time, or if you want to extend your time in a place that you enjoy you can!

I the east coast this spring that way, and it was a blast.

Where to go has a lot to do with your interests... if you want to see the east coast, you'd probably want to start there, as September will have the better weather.

Good luck!

Nicky,
I have helped over 10 TP members buys cars/vans in Vegas over the last several years. I can usually find something reliable for under $4K, usually around $3K. I suggest a Dodge Caravan, Ford Windstar, Chevy Astro van. They get decent mileage, easy to drive, can sleep in it while in our National Parks or just want to save some money. It costs about $120 to register a car, about $100/month to insure it. Do the math compared to renting and decide what is best for you.

Send me a PM if you have questions. Mike
