Happy to see a lot more people are heading out alone, at first I wasn't sure if I'd be in a minority!

I wouldn't bother with any of the agencies for Visas, why pay someone a good whack of money for something you can do in your own good time.

I'm getting more excited by the day, and its still probably the end of Feb before I set off!

Keatsy,
I think you just have to apply for anything you can to get a better chance of landing a job over there! what kinda work you looking for or are you not bothered?

You're right about seeing most places. got all the time in the world at the min!

yeah me too! the more money i can make the longer i can stay out there! my budget was about £1000 just for the flights so if thats the case then bonus! same when you go on holiday isnt it, you only pack decent clothes for nights out and crappy cheap ones for the day! think it'll be a trip to Primani for me! ha!

you too! thanks for all the tips! Oh n hope your shoulder gets better soon!

Adam,
im thinking of getting a few of them as well once i decide on exactly where i wanna go! i'll prob be booking my flights next month. the sooner i book them the better coz they'll prob go up nearer the date! only problem with scheduled flights!

Claire,
im glad you did as well! ha! was more concerned with visa, flights n hostle that i didnt think of anything else!
when you going to sta? im gonna go on their website and book my app now. sooner i get price for everything then i can budget and work out what i need to do to get extra money if i need to!
haha thats one way of seeing it! its just gonna be a case of shorts/vests/tshirts/flipflops really isnt it! It is exciting times! Just wish i could go now!

You decided where you're going Graeme?

I'll let you know what thier like when I get them ! What's sta? Is it like a travel agent but for round the world trips sort of thing ?

Fab! thanks!

Yeah they sort everything out for you. Flights, hostel, job, bank acc etc! Havent had a proper look at their site tho so not sure if they cheap or not. They got branches most places i think, so you can pop in and speak to someone about your trip. From what i have seen looks like they do starter packages for the main cities. Includes place to stay for first couple of nights, day trips and other stuff.

Becki. Yeah i am going to be pretty flexible when it come to work. I have worked in Greece and france behind the bar/managed aswell. Have experience in a few fields, which will help.

Dont go with STA to open up bank acc etc...they charge 25 quid. Jobs4travellers will do it for free. STA are good for flights though. I got a quote today for 700 and that involved a stop over in either Johannesberg or Bangkok. You can stop for a few days/weeks then get your connecting flight which i did not think was too bad.

Booking hostels, you are best to book yourself you will save loads..i have seen a good one in Perth and they are charging 139 pound for 7 nights..in the STA book it says 239 pound for 2 nights.a day trip plus a job board...so like i say they are good for flights!!

Hope that helps.

Same here! As long at its pays decent money n i wont get bored within the first day! I was told age may actually be on our side when it comes to getting a job! Ha! Dunno how true that is tho.

I thought they would! Companies like that usually do. Is that £700 for a one way flight or rtw return? Never thought of stoppin off in south africa on way. Did think about doing a stop in dubai but that was if i was going straight to oz but think im going to do what you suggested and stop over in thailand for a couple of days to get a lil taste of it before i go back later in the year.

I thought that was bit much just for a couple of days! Well it doesnt look like i need to do any research now ive started chatting to you! Your doing it all for me! Haha! Nah i am going to spend the weekend checking flights and hostels etc. did have a look last wkend but didnt really know what i was doing, at least i do now thanks to your advice.

700 was for one way, which is pretty good as it allows a stop off aswell, which is deffo what i intend to do. Now Jo'berg has been thrown into the mix that might be pretty cool before Oz..depends on the weather really. Thailand islands are amazing so it could be good to sit on a beach for a few days aswell!!

Dont worry about return flight too much as plans can change quite quickly. Plus why shell out for a flight you might never use, if you go New zealand after that could be 2/3 years and most rtw flights start off at about 850 onwards. If you intend on working in Oz you will be able to pay for the flight whenever really. The worst case is no job/savings gone but you ahve got to be pretty unlucky not to find anything!!

All i can say is do lots of research. The more you do the more you will save.

Becki,

Still not 100% sure where I will be flying into - goiney have a look on the job sites before I book the flights and make a last minute decision!

Hoping to find work as a QS, so hopefully go somewhere they are looking for that. Travel a bit, then start applying for work.

As for STA, I've not looked you. Always found the SkyScanner site helpful for looking at flights to be honest.
Bank accounts with a few seem easy enough to set up online, and you just go into a branch when in country and pick up the cards etc....
