Hi, I am an Italian girl, I am thinking about travelling next January. I would like to visit the most beautiful places ... but I was wondering .. if I am on my own and I am not going to rent a car is it easy to travel around the island with public transport?
Is anybody planning a trip in January or February? Suggestions about hostels and highlights are wellcome!!! :)))

Lory :O)

Yes, bus transport around New Zealand is generally effortless, with busses going everywhere you'd want to go daily; several times a day on the more popular routes. Look at InterCity or Nakedbus. If you have a mapped out itinerary, it's frequently worth getting a pass. Buying tickets from day to day is also possible, and you might get some good cheap fares, but on the other hand, January is high season, so probably not many of those available, and you might even run into busses which are completely full already.
